Description: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Street Maintenance Supervisor position is a Closed Promotional opportunity, available to any regular full-time City employee who has successfully completed the original probationary period or to any at-will full-time City employee who has completed twelve months of consecutive employment. As part of the City’s continued investment in infrastructure and project delivery following Measure Q, this new supervisory opportunity will expand capacity within the Streets Division and support stronger operational alignment across programs and crews.
Under general direction, this position supervises, assigns, and participates in the work of crews responsible for asphalt and concrete maintenance, weed abatement, graffiti programs, and related streets maintenance activities. The position supports daily operations, project delivery, contractor coordination, safety oversight, and field leadership to help meet service demands and infrastructure priorities.
Your Day-to-Day- Operational Leadership: Plan, schedule, and oversee assigned streets maintenance crews and programs, balancing daily operational demands with project priorities.
- Project Delivery: Support delivery of capital and maintenance projects related to asphalt, concrete, right-of-way maintenance, and related streets programs.
- Crew Supervision: Provide field leadership, coaching, and oversight to assigned staff while supporting productivity, accountability, and team development.
- Contract & Program Oversight: Coordinate contractor work and support programs related to weed abatement, graffiti response, and assigned maintenance contracts.
- Safety & Compliance: Promote safe work practices, ensure work zone safety, and support compliance with operational standards and procedures.
- Resource Planning: Assist with scheduling, materials, equipment use, and resource allocation to support efficient service delivery.
- Continuous Improvement: Help strengthen operations through problem-solving, process improvements, and collaboration across the Streets Division.

Ability to:
Coordinate and direct assigned City streets programs; supervise, organize, and review the work of staff involved in assigned maintenance program areas; participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of assigned staff; recommend and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing assigned services and activities; understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities; understand, interpret, and apply general and specific administrative and departmental policies and procedures as well as applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations; prepare and maintain records including time and material use records; prepare clear and concise reports; participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budgets; plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines; estimate time, materials, equipment, and costs needed to perform various work; effectively represent the City to outside individuals and agencies to accomplish the goals and objectives of the unit; work cooperatively with other departments, City officials, and outside agencies; respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately to inquiries from the public, City staff, or other agencies on sensitive issues in area of responsibility; ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures; ensure safety around work areas in high traffic; respond to maintenance/repair emergencies; safely drive and skillfully operate equipment and machinery; demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Benefits:
Vacation Leave – A new employee will accrue eighty (80) hours of vacation per calendar year for the first two years of service, one hundred, twenty (120) hours for years three through five, one hundred, sixty (160) hours for years six through ten and two hundred (200) hours after eleven years. Vacation accrual begins immediately; however, a new employee is not eligible to take vacation leave until the completion of six (6) months of service with the City.
Sick Leave – A new employee will earn ninety-six (96) hours of sick leave each year.
Bereavement Leave - Employees are eligible to use up to 40 hours of bereavement leave per fiscal year.
Group Health Insurance Program – A new employee will become a member of one of the City's group health plans (Aetna HMO, Aetna AVN HMO, Aetna PPO, or Kaiser HMO) effective the first day of the month following their date of hire. Per current MOU the City will pay 90% of the health care premium and employees will pick up 10% of the premiums of the plan they select.
Voluntary Dental/Vision Insurance Programs – The City offers two voluntary dental insurance programs, an HMO program and a PPO Program, as well as a voluntary vision insurance program.
Retiree Health Savings (RHS) – All employees participate in a Retiree Health Savings plan through the ICMA Retirement Corporation.
