Work-in Process Labor - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26002359)
The apprentice program shall consist of forty-eight (48) months of required classroom training plus no less than 8,320 hours of on-the-job training, and shall be in accordance with Exhibit B of the current University of Pittsburgh/International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95-95A agreement and any subsequent modifications or amendments to the agreement. The Operating Engineer Apprentice will be provided with on-the-job training under the supervision of a licensed operating engineer. Under supervision, the apprentice will be responsible for operating mechanical systems, performing selected preventive and corrective maintenance duties as directed, monitoring/operating building automation system hardware, software, sensors and components, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on Food Service equipment. The apprentice will also be trained and expected to participate in the operation and maintenance of the University's residence hall facilities. In addition to on-the-job training, the apprentice will be required to complete one of the following eight (8) Local 95-95A courses each six (6) months in order to progress on the wage scale: 1. Electricity I 2. HVACR I 3. High Pressure Boiler 4. HVACR II 5. Electricity II 6. Plumbing 7. HVACR III 8. Test Prep Course. The course requirements are subject to change at the discretion of the University, but will not exceed eight (8) required courses over the 8,320 hour apprenticeship. In no case will an apprentice be permitted to progress on the wage scale without completing both the required months of service and required coursework. Apprentice must obtain a 4th Class NIULPE License before their two (2) year anniversary and a 3rd Class NIULPE License before their three (3) year anniversary. A 2nd Class NIULPE License must be obtained prior to their 5th year anniversary and receive a Journeyman's Assignment. Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with additional coursework in the maintenance field preferred. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license required. Experience working with power tools and hand tools is preferred. Has no supervisory responsibility. If not currently a member of Local 95-95A, the selected apprentice will be required to join Local 95-95A upon employment with the University.

Incumbent must be able to be mobile around campus, be able to lift 50 lbs., crawl and have above average sensory perception; must possess valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Physical Effort
Incumbent will be required to climb ladders, crawl into confined spaces including manholes, and utility tunnels. Also, must be able to maneuver around small areas and be able to lift equipment and supplies.
