Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that machinery and equipment in the manufacturing facility are running smoothly on all shifts. Conduct regular maintenance checks, troubleshooting problems and perform repairs on equipment as needed. Install new machinery and equipment and ensure that it runs safely and efficiently; to meet the production requirements needed.

The Maintenance mechanic needs to have a good understanding of how mechanical and electrical systems work and be able to read technical manuals and schematics. Must have experience using power tools and welding equipment. Have strong communication skills. The Maintenance mechanic must work closely with the production team and other departments to confirm that needed equipment and machinery is kept working and that problems are taken care of timely and efficiently

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic performs the following:

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions of manufacturing equipment, uses parts necessary for repair, and repairs machines. Repairs include mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, water circulation, etc.
  • When repairs are beyond our expertise or not practical to perform with in house personnel and equipment, obtains approval from superiors for outside technical support, repair of equipment, and/or tools not currently in our possession.
  • Performs building maintenance and repair, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and masonry.
  • Assist in equipment repairs and completes preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Disposes of unnecessary parts following company protocol.
  • Maintains work area clean and orderly and is responsible for organizing supplies, parts and tools in the shelving units.
  • Maintains preventive maintenance schedules and accurately records compliance.
  • Maintains supply of frequently replaced, critical, or difficult to obtain parts to prevent unreasonable delay in repair of manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintains departmental records. Collects and analyzes trends. Reports findings and makes process recommendations to the Tooling, Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
  • Promotes and maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Positive interaction with all levels of the organization.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, technical publications and networking.
  • Runs “Manager Plus” PM software
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Enhance equipment performance by making adjustments and recommending modifications and recommending improvements.

2. Working with Production Scheduler and Production Supervisor to coordinate and schedule monthly, weekly or daily preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, and equipment troubleshooting.

3. Maintain up to date records of scheduled and prior preventive maintenance of equipment and machinery.

4. Supervise Maintenance technicians.

5. Monitor and maintain inventory of spare parts.

6. Coordinate ordering of parts as needed with Materials Buyer.

7. Coordinate scheduling and activities of visiting service personnel.

8. Help maintain TPM system per IATF16949 requirements.

9. Maintain a clean and safe working environment by complying with company, state and federal rules and regulations

10. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing results as needed, working well with others and sharing knowledge of equipment and processes with fellow employees.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements and Years of Experience:

  • 2 years of technical training and 5+ related work experience or combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in the insert rotary table and vertical Injection Molding equipment is required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with quality system requirements such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
  • General understanding of electrical and mechanical principles as well as hydraulic and pneumatic principles.

Administrative, Technological and Behavioral Skills:

  • Mechanical Ability – Proficient in the use of a variety of shop tools and instrumentation. Understanding of mechanical concepts and energy sources – hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and others.
  • Attention to detail - Ability to follow instructions given by the Maintenance Mechanic. General understanding of mechanical diagrams and sketches. Ability to read operation manuals and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Computer Literate - Understanding of the operation of a Personal Computer and peripheral equipment. General knowledge of computer software applications, such as Microsoft Office or equivalent preferred.
  • Understanding of computerized control panels.
  • Planning and Organizations Skills – Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with general supervision. Ability to handle several assignments at the same time. Must be able to assist in resolving recurring problems with the equipment. Must complete accurate reports and logs.
  • Housekeeping - Ability to keep maintenance area organized and clean. Organize and maintain parts/supplies inventory.
  • Positive team-member - Must be able to work in a team or independently. Ability to handle moderate amount of stress, while keeping a positive outlook and being respectful to co-workers.
  • Good communication skills – Able to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to communicate with operators and supervisors. Seek guidance of Maintenance Mechanic regarding appropriate course of action before starting complicated repairs.
  • Ability to work overtime and travel, when needed, hours may be “on call”.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/maneuver up to 200lbs with help.
  • Ability to work in a loud, tight spaced sometimes hot environment where temperatures range from below 0 F outdoors and above 95 F indoors.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment.
