JOB SUMMARY

The House Supervisor manages the daily flow of patient care and oversees hospital operations during the absence of administration. The hospital supervisor provides leadership, direction, and maintenance of standards to ensure excellence in patient and family care reflective of CCH mission, vision, and values. The Hospital Supervisor practices within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and American Nurses Association professional standards.

Provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of unit management. Addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. Supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. Handles occurrences during the shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. Determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. Collaborates with patients, family members and physicians to ensure needs are met and problems are resolved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages the daily flow of patient care.
  • Oversees hospital operations during the absence of administration.
  • Interprets, utilizes, and maintains the standard of nursing care as established by the Wyoming Nurse Practice act, ANA professional standards and CCH policies and procedures.
  • Applies principles of the nursing process and role models nursing excellence as a staff resource.
  • Supervises and evaluates hospital staff and assists with decision-making to ensure safe patient care in conjunction with the Department Director/ Manager/ CCS.
  • Implements staffing reductions through Vex/Mex policies. Assists with staffing needs in collaboration with leadership.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, coaching evaluating, and disciplinary actions in conjunction with the supervisory staff.
  • Contributes to nursing and hospital functioning through active participation on committees, attendance at designated meetings and offers recommendations for improvement.
  • Develops and maintains professional working relationship with inter- and intra-departmental personnel and medical staff in communicating the plan of care and patient outcomes.
  • Supports, participates, and implements hospital continuous quality improvement process.
  • Provides essential equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals; participates in cost containment and economical utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Manages human resources as determined by acuity. Assists departments & follow staffing guidelines.
  • Uses communication in problem-solving and conflict resolution among staff, physicians, patients, support personnel and community members.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and /or financial practices.
  • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned. This list is non-exhaustive.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Licensure
    • Current licensure in the State of Wyoming as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certifications required
    • See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
  • Experience
    • Five years' experience with supervisory responsibility preferred.
