About This Position

Mission Statement:
Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency will act as a stepping stone to create stronger communities where families with low incomes have opportunities to connect, grow, and maintain dignity.

Summary:
The Program Specialist will work within a team to determine eligibility for crisis services and build relationships within the community to meet the needs of our customers. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to assess circumstances quickly, and a strong capacity for public speaking in both small and large groups. The successful candidate will be a creative, self-starter, self-disciplined, and comfortable interacting with customers and the community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Eligibility Determination:
    • Assess and determine eligibility for crisis services in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Customer Service:
    • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and ensuring a positive experience for clients.
  3. Data Entry:
    • Accurately enter and maintain customer information and case notes into required systems.
  4. Motivational Interviewing:
    • Conduct motivational interviewing with customers in need of crisis services to assess needs and identify appropriate solutions.
  5. Mentoring & Coaching:
    • Provide guidance and support to individuals, helping them achieve their goals and improve their circumstances.
  6. Facilitating Classes, Trainings, Meetings, and Support Groups:
    • Organize and lead educational sessions, training programs, and support groups.
  7. Coordinating Community Resources:
    • Connect customers with appropriate community resources to address their needs.
  8. Community Development:
    • Engage in community development efforts to improve access to resources for underserved populations.
  9. Building Community Networks:
    • Foster relationships with local organizations and service providers to build a network of support.
  10. Creating Partnerships:
    • Establish partnerships with other community organizations and stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  11. Attend Meetings & Networking Groups:
    • Participate in relevant meetings and networking groups to stay informed and expand community connections.
  12. TEFAP/Commodities Programs:
    • Assist with planning, packing, and distributing food through TEFAP/Commodities Programs.
  13. Outreach Events:
    • Schedule and participate in outreach events to educate the community and provide eligibility determination for services.
  14. Additional Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience:
    • 2 years of experience in the field of Human Services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • A combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
