Job Description:
The Director of Tutoring and Summer Academic Programs will support the Assistant Dean of Academic Services in managing the daily responsibilities of the Tutoring Center, summer academic programming such as Bridge to BU, and support overall student success.
Tutoring Center Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train and supervise peer tutors.
- Develop and implement tutor pedagogical practices and continuous professional development in accordance with CRLA.
- Maintain CRLA certification.
- Collaborate with campus departments and faculty to support student engagement, retention, and success efforts.
- Develop outreach, orientations, social media, and marketing materials to promote the Tutoring Center.
- Implement workshops centering on academic skill development (i.e. goal setting, time management, study skills).
- Provide individual academic coaching support for students.
- Coordinate tutor schedules and course offerings.
- Maintain tutoring scheduling system and visit data.
- Monitor tutoring center budget.
- Design, implement, and maintain a cyclical assessment plan to evaluate and demonstrate the efficacy of Tutoring Center services.
- Complete weekly, monthly and annual reports.
- Serve as advisor for the national honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta.
Summer Academic Programs Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead administrator for Bridge to BU, Bellarmine's five-week summer bridge program for conditionally admitted students.
- Develop training and orientations for faculty, student staff, bridge participants, and families.
- Hire and supervise peer tutors and peer mentors.
- Plan and implement the academic components of the program.
- Collaborate with the Provost's Office and academic deans for Bridge to BU course selection.
- Plan and implement social programming designed to build community among bridge participants.
- Collaborate with Enrollment Management and Student Affairs on recruitment, admission, housing, and orientation for summer bridge program participants.
- Track the academic performance of bridge participants who successfully enroll at Bellarmine.
- Provide continued academic support throughout the first-year.
- Make data informed decisions to improve program outcomes.
- Complete reports regarding the progress of the bridge participants on a regular basis.
General Responsibilities:
- Perform special projects and related responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Academic Services.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in education, higher education or related field.
- Two years of experience working in higher education.
- Knowledge of student development strategies and high-impact practices.
- Ability to work effectively with students, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities, and socioeconomic levels.
- Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Experience working directly with tutoring centers (preferred).
- Student supervisory experience (preferred).
- Experience working with a summer bridge program (preferred).
