Animal Control Officer (Part-Time)
The Glenwood Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Animal Control Officer to serve within the Village of Glenwood and assist the Glenwood Police Department.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to service calls involving animals running at large, or those that are injured, abandoned, or neglected in violation of the Village of Glenwood’s local ordinances. The applicant may be required to issue citations, testify in local court hearings regarding ordinance violations, and coordinate with the South Suburban Humane Society.
The Animal Control Officer is also responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Glenwood Pet Shelter to ensure it remains suitable for housing domestic animals. Duties include, but are not limited to:
· Providing proper care and feeding of relocated animals
· Maintaining clean and safe housing conditions
· Ensuring all animals are attended to as needed
Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to work effectively with the public, remain calm under pressure, and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations. They must be assertive, respectful, and capable of making appropriate decisions. Accurate documentation and recordkeeping are essential, along with basic computer proficiency.
This part-time position may require 16–20 hours per week, depending on call volume and the number of animals in the shelter.
A valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance are required. A village vehicle will be provided during scheduled work shifts. This is a physically demanding role requiring regular bending, kneeling, and lifting. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
The starting hourly rate is $20.00.
