Position Summary

This position influences the professional role competence and growth of learners in a variety of settings. The incumbent provides guidance to all clinical department leaders and educators, providing expertise in assessing and addressing educational needs. This includes managing accurate and timely staff education records and teaching clinical content. The NPD practitioner supports lifelong learners in an interprofessional environment that facilitates continuous development and learning for the healthcare team.

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
- Develops, updates, and coordinates nursing orientation for newly hired Registered Nurses and Patient Care Techs.
- Coordinates Basic EKG.
- Maintains clinical visibility and serves as a resource to staff and managers regarding evidence-based nursing practice and procedures.
- Coordinates and provides a broad range of educational services, including the assessment and prioritizing, planning and evaluation of programs to meet the developmental and educational needs of staff and promotes lifelong nursing.
- Establishes a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.
- Identifies, analyzes, validates, and prioritizes and documents actual or potential practice gaps using assessment data.
- Engages learners and key stakeholders in formulating expected outcomes of professional development initiatives to ensure the quality of care and patient safety.
- Aligns expected outcomes with assessment and practice gap analysis.
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Seeks knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing and NPD practice and promotes futuristic thinking.
- Demonstrates advocacy in all settings.
- Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.
- Maintains professional competence.
- Continually reassesses competencies and identifies needs for additional knowledge, skills, staff development, and integrative learning experiences.
- Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
- Works collaboratively with department directors and medical staff to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork related to clinical education.
- Supports the Iowa Board of Nursing CEU provider process.
- Supports the nurse residency program.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
-
Current Iowa Nursing license as a Registered Nurse.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Organizational Requirements:
-
Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Professional certification in nursing professional development.
-
Master’s degree in nursing within five years.
-
ACLS instructor status
-
ACLS training center faculty status
-

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-
Proficient in communication skills.
-
Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-
Two years experience in clinical education of adult learners and at least four years of clinical practice.

Knowledge of the Iowa Nurse Practice Act, accreditation standards, ANA standards, and clinical research methods.

Possesses the ability to interact with diverse groups of people and professions; communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
