About This Position
Baja Fresh is looking to hire Cooks that will be responsible for preparing complex menu items for our Guests. Duties will include prepping meals by weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, cooking proteins and vegetables, checking ingredients for freshness, and building the menu items to order.
The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation, so we can expand our clientele. You will cook meals that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery.
Baja Fresh Cook Responsibilities:
- Wow our guests with amazing food
- Weigh, measure, mix and prep ingredients according to recipes
- Check quality of ingredients
- Steam, grill, boil, bake or fry meats, fish, vegetables, and other ingredients
- Check food and ingredients for freshness
- Work well under pressure with a purpose
- Ensure that kitchen area, equipment and utensils are cleaned by keeping a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
- Practices excellent food safety and sanitation practices and complies with HACCP standards
- Ensure all uncooked and cooked food and other items are stored properly
- Help lead and inspire our kitchen staff with the Restaurant Manager
- Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
- Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
- Maintain accurate food inventories
- Operate various kitchen appliance such as a blender, char-broiler, stove and fryer
- Follow recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking and serving food items which may include soups, meats, vegetables, deserts and other food and beverage products.
- Restock kitchen for subsequent shifts, dates, and rotate stock items as per established procedures.
Baja Fresh Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Culinary school 2-4-year degree or foreign equivalency preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience, work experience in high volume or fast casual dining restaurant environment preferred
- Thorough experience with hot and cold food preparation
- Ability to use slicers, dicers, blenders, etc.
- Ability to handle work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Ability to bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions
- Frequently immerses hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions
- Frequently works with sharp knives, utensils
- Frequently works in hot environment
