Project Controls Specialist

Position Overview

The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning, monitoring, and controlling of project performance through effective schedule management, cost control, risk analysis, and reporting. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Schedule Management
    • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using tools like Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
    • Monitor progress against baselines and identify schedule variances.
    • Collaborate with project teams to mitigate delays and optimize resource allocation.
  2. Cost Control
    • Track project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
    • Prepare cost forecasts, variance analyses, and earned value management (EVM) reports.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and flag potential overruns.
  3. Risk Management
    • Assist in identifying, assessing, and monitoring project risks.
    • Maintain risk registers and support the development of mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure risk-related data is integrated into project controls processes.
  4. Reporting and Communication
    • Generate regular status reports, dashboards, and KPIs for stakeholders.
    • Present project performance insights to project managers and leadership.
    • Ensure accurate and timely communication of project data.
  1. Change Management
    • Track and document project changes, including scope, schedule, and cost impacts.
    • Support the evaluation and approval process for change requests.
    • Update project controls systems to reflect approved changes.
  2. Data Analysis and Tool Utilization
    • Leverage project management software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, SAP) for data integration and analysis.
    • Maintain data integrity across systems and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
    • Provide training or guidance to team members on project controls tools.

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate expertise in project controls software and methodologies (e.g., EVM, CPM).
  • Analytical Skills: Proactively identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align on project goals.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Ensure all reports, schedules, and forecasts are precise and reliable.
  • Adaptability: Manage multiple projects or priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compliance: Adhere to organizational policies, industry standards, and contractual requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project controls, scheduling, or cost management.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel, and/or SAP.
  • Knowledge of earned value management (EVM) and risk management principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification (e.g., PMP, AACE, PMI-SP) is a plus.
