OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The HUD Certified Housing Counselor is responsible for providing expert advice customized to the need of the client to address the clients’ housing barriers and to achieve their goals. Delivers professional housing counseling, offering strategic guidance to clients while consistently meeting all mandated HUD requirements and National Industry Standards. Comprehensive housing counseling services include pre-purchase, foreclosure prevention, rental counseling, and housing education. The counselor works with clients to assess their financial situation, evaluate options, develop action plans, and connect them with relevant resources and programs to achieve their housing goals and promote financial stability. The Housing Counselor is required to have a strong technical background with emphasis on mortgage lending (both originating and servicing), credit repair counseling, real estate and foreclosure mitigation laws. Other strategic abilities include active listening, analytical and organizational skills and steady boundaries. It is critical that the Housing Counselor be an artful negotiator. Flexibility and an optimistic, realistic attitude are necessary to best manage a client’s expectations. Must comply with established HUD program regulations - 24 CFR Part 214. This role requires a HUD-certified Housing Counselor to manage accurate and confidential client files and program records in accordance with agency, HUD, and grant requirements, including adherence to the HUD Handbook, utilizing agencies client management systems for timely reporting to various stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

1. Education /Background:

High school diploma or its equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience in credit repair and mortgage lending procedures including loan servicing, mortgage underwriting concepts, and loss mitigation options.

HUD Certified Housing Counseling Certification or ability to acquire Certification within 180 Days of employment.

2. Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Good working knowledge of mortgage loan documents

• Good working knowledge of the loss mitigation process

• Knowledge of the housing market and potential obstacles for homeownership

• Knowledge of lending products and various homebuyer assistance programs

• Ability to analyze financial information and calculate loan rates/terms

• Demonstrated ability to work with others in establishing goals and objectives

• Ability to effectively communicate and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experience

• Two years of experience and clearly demonstrated skills in credit repair and mortgage lending procedure including loan servicing, mortgage underwriting concepts and loss mitigation options

3. Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

• Bilingual - Spanish/English

• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills. Able to communicate effectively and interpret loan documents

• Able to multi-task, prioritize workload and meet deadlines

• Strong customer service ability: Able to service a multi-cultural customer base

• Able to use strong mathematical and reasoning skills
