Medical Asst NC Float (BOH)

Job Title: Non-Certified Medical Assistant Float

Department: Beacon Occupational Health
Reports To: Practice Manager
Location: Various Beacon Occupational Health Sites

Position Summary:

The Non-Certified Medical Assistant Float supports clinical and clerical functions across multiple Beacon Occupational Health locations. This role assists providers with patient care, performs administrative duties, and travels to various sites as needed. Under general supervision, the Float MA ensures a smooth and efficient patient experience while upholding Beacon’s mission and service standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Travel to various Beacon Occupational Health locations to support daily operations.

  • Greet and assist patients in a professional, compassionate manner.

  • Take vitals, collect medical histories, perform basic tests (e.g., urinalysis, EKGs), administer injections, and assist with minor procedures.

  • Prepare exam rooms, sterilize instruments, and maintain clinical supplies.

  • Support drug/alcohol testing and follow DOT protocols (training provided).

  • Schedule appointments and procedures; manage patient records and data entry in the electronic health record (EHR).

  • Answer phones, triage calls, and relay accurate messages.

  • Provide patient instructions based on provider orders and protocols.

  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be at least 17 years of age.

  • Previous medical office experience preferred.

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

  • CPR/BCLS, TB screening, First Aid, DOT drug screen and BAT certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic clinical and administrative knowledge in a healthcare setting.

  • Comfortable working independently in different locations.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Physical & Working Conditions:
  • Requires walking, standing, and lifting (up to 35 lbs without assistance).

  • May involve physical positioning of patients and prolonged periods of activity.

  • Flexible schedule required; travel to multiple practice sites is expected.
