Sports Park Coordinator
JOB TITLE: Sports Park Coordinator (Full-Time)
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation – Sports Park
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
HOURLY RATE: $20-$21/hr
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sports Park Coordinator serves as an operational and cultural leader at O'Fallon Family Sports Park. This position oversees daily facility and concession operations while mentoring and developing a predominantly youth and young-adult workforce.
The Coordinator ensures efficient, high-quality park operations during tournaments, leagues, rentals, and special events, while fostering a positive, accountable, and professional team environment. This role models strong leadership, communication, and sound decision-making, and contributes to the long-term growth and success of the Sports Park.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT & CULTURE LEADERSHIP
- Serve as a mentor and role model for a predominantly youth and young-adult workforce, supporting personal growth, confidence, and professionalism in the workplace
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment where staff feel supported, valued, and motivated to succeed
- Build trust and open communication with staff through approachability, consistency, and active listening
- Reinforce shared team values such as accountability, teamwork, communication, and mutual respect
- Provide clear expectations and real-time coaching to help staff improve performance and customer service
- Address challenges or conflicts constructively, focusing on learning, accountability, and solutions
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration while maintaining a fun, engaging, and professional atmosphere
- Support staff development by helping young employees learn responsibility, time management, and workplace communication skills
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily concession and facility operations during leagues, tournaments, rentals, and special events
- Support scheduling coordination
- Monitor staffing levels to ensure efficient operations during high-volume periods
- Identify operational improvements and recommend solutions to enhance guest experience and revenue performance
- Mentor, coach, and support part-time staff
- Provide clear expectations, constructive feedback, and encouragement to staff in real time
- Promote a fun, engaging, and team-oriented atmosphere while maintaining operational standards
- Work collaboratively and communicates effectively with other park and recreation staff
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with, mentor, and motivate young staff members
- Ability to build trust, communicate expectations clearly, and provide constructive feedback
- Ability to lead through influence, example, and relationship-building rather than authority alone
- Demonstrated ability to support team accountability while maintaining positive working relationships
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and address concerns professionally

- Knowledge of sports programming and athletic facility operations, specifically adult softball.
FOOD SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness standards within concession or food-service environments
- Ability to consistently enforce food safety procedures and operational standards
- Ability to complete City-provided Food Safety training and apply practices daily
- Ability to monitor concession operations to ensure compliance with food safety and health guidelines
PROFESSIONALISM & JUDGMENT
- Demonstrates sound judgment, accountability, and professionalism in daily decision-making
- Ability and willingness to enforce park rules, policies, and safety standards consistently and fairly
- Demonstrates reliability, independence, and a strong sense of responsibility
- Ability to communicate professionally with tournament directors, coaches, referees, umpires, and guests, especially when de-escalating situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to perform physical activities such as standing and walking for extended periods, as well as frequent bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching
- Most work is accomplished in an outdoor environment, subject to weather fluctuations (wide range of temperatures and inclement conditions)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds unassisted
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and special events
- Bachelor's degree in Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field or minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in athletic facility operations, parks & recreation, food service management, event operations, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising part-time, seasonal, or youth staff
- Experience with inventory control, cost tracking, or revenue management
- Experience coordinating athletic facilities, tournaments, leagues, rentals, or multi-field scheduling
- Experience overseeing concession or food service operations, including point-of-sale systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead staff, manage performance expectations, and maintain accountability
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to make independent operational decisions during high-volume events
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in athletic facility or sports complex operations
- Experience in inventory control and cost management
- Experience managing conflict resolution with coaches, parents, officials, and youth athletes
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to program growth, sponsorship coordination, or operational improvements
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
