About the role:
The Junior Financial Analyst is a key member of the FP&A team in a growing construction subcontractor organization. This position supports financial analytics, budgeting, forecasting, and modeling to support strategic decision-making, enhance project and overall company profitability, and optimize working capital. The role involves close collaboration with leadership, project managers, estimators, and operations teams to provide actionable insights on financial performance, risks, and growth opportunities in a dynamic, project-driven environment focused on subcontracted construction services.
Key Responsibilities:

- Support the maintenance and improvement of comprehensive financial models for company-wide budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and project-level profitability analysis; integrate construction-specific elements such as job costing, backlog, work-in-progress (WIP), and change order impacts.
- Assist in building and refining service-specific models (e.g., for trade/specialty services) and incorporate them into the overall corporate financial model to support accurate forecasting and scenario planning.
- Analyze financial data, project results, and operational metrics to identify trends, risks (e.g., cost overruns, margin erosion), and opportunities; prepare variance analyses, profitability reports, and recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
- Support the update of the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast; analyze working capital needs (considering retainage, progress billing, vendor payments, and project cash cycles), recommend strategies for optimization, and implement improvements to enhance liquidity and cash management.
- Assist with monthly/quarterly financial reviews, including consolidation of project financials, backlog reporting, revenue recognition, and KPI tracking (e.g., gross margins, DSO, project ROI).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (project management, accounting, estimating, field operations) to gather inputs, validate assumptions, and ensure alignment between financial plans and operational realities.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, including annual budgeting processes, ad-hoc financial studies, and support for potential M&A or growth opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, internal controls, and industry-specific requirements (e.g., percentage-of-completion accounting, lien laws).
- Perform other duties and special projects assigned to support the accounting and finance team, project execution, and the overall success of the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, construction management, business administration, or related field required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced financial modeling, scenario analysis, pivot tables, macros) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Viewpoint, Procore, Foundation, or similar construction/job costing platforms).
- Knowledge of business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for data visualization and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Superior communication and leadership abilities to present findings to senior leadership, influence decision-making, and mentor junior team members.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with construction industry financial practices (e.g., job costing, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, change orders, retainage, backlog management) is highly desirable.
