About This Position

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design of metal building systems by applying established engineering practices, model building codes, and company standards
- Work in a team environment with estimating, sales, and drafting to define, clarify, and process projects to meet customers’ needs on individual projects
- Review project plans, specifications and building code requirements
- Convey design information to drafting, using written and verbal communication
- Assist sales, project managers, architects, and builders to determine project requirements and proper utilization of Behlen systems to meet customer needs
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design
- If not already licensed, work directly under licensed engineers toward licensure
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B. S. Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in building design, with a firm grasp of steel
- Ability to demonstrate design of medium to higher complexity buildings including but not limited to cranes, mezzanines, parapets, hangar door system support
- Proficiency with AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, and model building codes
- P. E. Registration strongly preferred but not required
- S. E. Registration strongly preferred but not required
- Experience with MBS preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
- Continuous productivity improvements without loss of accuracy or completeness, reduction of manufacturing and drafting costs, and increased ease of erection and customer value.
- Ability to manage projects beyond the design phase through project completion
- Ability to manage several overlapping projects.
- Train and mentor less experienced engineers
