Job Description

The

Technician (HVAC/R) Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation systems in commercial and industrial environments. You will ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with applicable codes and standards while delivering superior-quality service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, and refrigeration system schematics to determine installation layout and system operation.

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems, air conditioning units, compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, and other components.

  • Test systems to verify leak tightness, pressure levels, proper operation, and energy efficiency.

  • Determine the layout of refrigeration piping networks, ventilation ducts, and connections, and install the required supports.

  • Cut, weld, braze, and assemble copper, steel, and other types of piping used in refrigeration systems.

  • Install, maintain, and repair control systems, defrost systems, and safety devices for refrigeration equipment.

  • Troubleshoot refrigeration issues, locate refrigerant leaks, blockages, and system failures.

  • Perform preventive maintenance programs and keep accurate, up-to-date maintenance records.

  • Ensure installations comply with Québec refrigeration codes and applicable safety standards (e.g., CSA B52 – Mechanical Refrigeration Code).

  • Work effectively with project teams, other trades, and clients to ensure the successful completion of work.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Valid Refrigeration Technician (HVAC/R) certificate of qualification.

  • DEP in Refrigeration or equivalent relevant training.

  • Relevant experience as a refrigeration technician in commercial or industrial settings.

  • Excellent knowledge of Québec refrigeration codes and standards (e.g., Québec Construction Code, Chapter IV – Building, CSA standards).

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

  • Proficiency with tools and equipment specific to the refrigeration trade (vacuum pump, leak detector, gauges, etc.).

  • Strong autonomy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

  • Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

  • Valid driver’s license (an asset).
