Assistant, Anatomic Pathology at Shore Medical Center – Somers Point, New Jersey

Position Summary
The Pathology Lab Assistant reporting to the Anatomic Pathology Supervisor will perform a variety of both technical and secretarial duties in Histology, Cytology and Pathology Office.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Accurately performs billing, computer and clerical functions for in/out patient specimen in Histology and Cytology Departments.
• Time stamps specimen requisitions upon arrival into the Histology or Cytology Department.
• Enters patient and specimen data into the Cerner system using Maintain Case.
• Accessions both GYN and NON-GYN specimens.
• Ensures specimens are in the correct order and location.
• Ensure that Cytology specimens put in the Histology Overnight bin are delivered in a timely manner to the Cytology department for processing.
• Covers clerical coverage for the Pathology office as needed.
• Ensures copier is in working order and has paper and ink.·
• Answers phone within three rings and transfers calls appropriately.
• Faxes reports as needed.
• Files slides and reports.
• Prepares send out specimens to Mayo, GenPath or other reference labs as needed.
• Delivers outgoing mail to the hospital mail room and retrieves and distributes department mail.
• Scans documents into patient electronic medical record.
• Delivers completed dictations to the pathologists.

Minimum Requirements
• High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent Work
• Experience in a hospital Laboratory preferred
• Must be able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing
• Good organizational skills
• Computer Skills
• Clerical Skills, such as filing, sorting
• Detail Oriented

Salary Range: $17.68 - $25.02 (based on experience)
