About This Position

Brief Description:
Looking to get your start in the world of building technology and physical security systems? As a Technical Summer Intern at Parallel Technologies, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting real projects while rotating through key departments including Engineering (System Design and Estimation), Project Management, Programming, and Technical Sales. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, learn how projects move from concept to installation, and build practical skills that translate directly into future technical roles.
Our summer internship program is designed to help you grow, learn, and explore where your strengths fit best. Throughout the internship, you’ll complete meaningful assignments, receive mentorship from team members across the organization, and gain exposure to both office-based work and jobsite environments. The program lasts 12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates to meet the needs of your school and summer schedule.

Compensation: $23.00-26.00/hour

Job Responsibilities:
Engineering (System Design & Estimation) Support:
  • Support engineering staff with basic system design tasks including device layouts, markups, and design documentation.
  • Assist with gathering project information, reviewing drawings, and learning how building technology systems are planned and specified.
  • Help prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and assist in basic estimating activities under supervision.
  • Learn how system design decisions impact project execution, customer expectations, and financial performance.
Project Management Support:
  • Analyze and update list of approved sub-contractors nation wide.
  • Assist Project Managers with administrative and coordination tasks to support project execution.
  • Participate in project meetings, take notes, and help track action items and deliverables.
  • Support project documentation and organization, including closeout materials and internal communication.
  • Learn how projects are planned, scheduled, and executed from kickoff through completion.
Programming / Systems Deployment Support:
  • Support the programming team with configuration tasks, documentation, and system setup under supervision.
  • Learn how physical security systems are deployed and managed using vendor software platforms.
  • Assist with organizing commissioning documentation and standardization efforts.
  • Gain exposure to IP-based equipment, system integration, and networking fundamentals.
Technical Sales Support:
  • Support technical sales activities including solution research, proposal support, and customer-facing documentation.
  • Assist in preparing technical narratives and supporting materials for customer presentations.
  • Participate in customer discovery conversations when appropriate, learning how technical solutions are aligned to business needs.
  • Develop an understanding of how Parallel’s solutions are positioned in the market.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
  • Assist with documentation and process improvement efforts as assigned.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, organization, or communication during internship assignments.
  • Stay engaged and curious about new technologies, systems, and tools used in the building technology and physical security space.
Team Contribution & Values:

Required Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Engineering, Construction Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Cybersecurity, or a similar technical discipline
• Strong interest in pursuing a career in one of Parallel’s technical roles (Engineering, Project Management, Programming, or Technical Sales)
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass background, aptitude, & drug test
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the intern is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use hands to operate standard office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, telephone, copier, and printer. The role may occasionally require lifting and/or moving items up to 40 pounds.
This is a temporary full-time internship position based primarily in a professional office setting with occasional visits to customer locations, often times in an unfinished construction zone. The standard workweek is 40 hours; however, flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines or support critical needs.
Regular, predictable, and reliable in person attendance is an essential function of this role.
