This role is a senior, hands-on engineering position responsible for designing, building, and scaling backend systems that power member experiences, clinical workflows, and internal operations. You will provide technical leadership across product teams, guiding system architecture, best practices, and implementation decisions to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance. Working closely with Product, Design, and Engineering, you will translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions while contributing to infrastructure, deployments, and observability practices. This position requires a product-minded, outcome-driven engineer who thrives in fast-moving, mission-oriented environments, values ownership, and enjoys mentoring and unblocking teammates. Your work will have a direct impact on the growth and operational success of critical systems and services.
Build, evolve, and maintain backend services supporting core products, member-facing workflows, and operational tooling.
Lead technical execution across product pods by shaping architecture, setting standards, and providing guidance to unblock teams.
Design systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
Partner with Product and Design teams to translate business requirements into clear technical plans and tradeoffs.
Contribute to infrastructure, deployments, observability, and incident response for production environments.
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to uphold high-quality standards and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Implement AI-augmented solutions responsibly, ensuring compliance with privacy, security, and reliability standards.
Requirements:
Senior or Staff-level backend engineering experience with a track record of owning and shipping production systems.
Deep experience with Go or Kotlin (preferably both) for at least 3+ years.
Strong infrastructure and DevOps experience in AWS or GCP (preference for GCP), ideally 4+ years.
Experience running production workloads on Kubernetes, ideally 2+ years.
Some exposure to Node.js/JavaScript.
Product-minded approach, able to think in terms of outcomes, tradeoffs, and user impact.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clarify ambiguity and guide technical decisions.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment with speed, accountability, and occasional ambiguity.
Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools and leveraging them to increase engineering impact.
