Position Summary:
The Shelter Lead is responsible for supervising shelter attendants and ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate shelter operations. This role supports the Project Manager in monitoring staff, guest services, and compliance with HOST Shelter Standards. The Shelter Lead provides direct supervision during assigned shifts, coordinates daily task assignments, facilitates staff communication, and ensures documentation and reporting are completed accurately and on time.

Mission of Role:

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

- Provide supervision and support to Shelter Attendants during assigned shifts. Assign, delegate, and monitor daily tasks for Shelter Attendants, ensuring coverage of guest services, cleaning, laundry, and other operational needs.
- Ensure safe, orderly shelter operations in compliance with HOST requirements, including grievance and security procedures.
- Monitor guest interactions, ensuring services are trauma-informed, equitable, and family-centered.
- Respond to incidents, provide de-escalation, and complete incident reports.
- Assist with intake, orientation, and discharge of residents.
- Ensure all documentation is completed clearly and accurately, including HMIS service notes (as applicable), incident reports, daily activity records, and intervention strategies.
- Review documentation submitted by Shelter Attendants for completeness and accuracy prior to shift handoff or escalation.
- Assign and monitor shelter attendant duties (guest services, cleaning, laundry, etc.).
- Provide on-the-ground leadership in coordination with the Program Manager.
- Assist with payroll/timekeeping entries for Shelter Attendants as needed.
- Ensure facilities are clean, stocked, and prepared for incoming shifts.
- Support new staff training and provide coaching to team members.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Site Director.

- Knowledge of family homelessness and shelter operations.
- Ability to lead staff in a supportive and professional manner.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and de-escalate crises.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises Shelter Attendants during assigned shifts.
- Provides coaching, direction, and accountability for staff performance.
Expected Hours of Work:
Varies – 24/7 Shelter Operations (Evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required)
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, and engage in active programming with children.
- Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in community settings.

Work Environment:
Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service partners with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operational support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include shelter management, safety patrol, janitorial services, and transportation operations.
Experience and Education Required:
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
Experience and Education Preferred:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Prior shelter or human services experience preferred.

- Must be 18 years or older
- Must pass background check
