About This Position
Job Summary:
The Patient Care Manager is accountable and responsible 24 hours a day for managing and guiding all the activities of the unit including, but not limited to, the staff, environment, and patients. In addition, the Patient Care Manager is held accountable for functioning within the unit budget by using cost-effective methods while maintaining safe quality patient care. She/he is directly accountable and responsible to the Director of Patient Care Service. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element of the formula for success. Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. And other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
- Provides leadership and serves as a role model for staff.
- Performs unit and patient rounds on a continuous basis.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate changes in policy and procedures and other appropriate communication to staff.
- Demonstrates ability to participate in department planning, decision making and policy formation
- Communicates pertinent patient information to all health care team members and
demonstrates the ability to assist in the coordination of services with the medical staff, nursing staff and other departments as well as other providers. Maintains own clinical skills staying current in skills, ongoing competencies, equipment and certifications required in specific nursing area, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification every two years..
- Demonstrates ability to perform all technical skills required for each unit’s population by rendering professional nursing care including administering medications, starting IVs, venipuncture, restraint application.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills and uses professional judgement to respond promptly with intervention when clinical changes occur.
- Demonstrates thorough, concise and timely documentation,
- Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection, control and compliance standards.
- Demonstrates financial viability with effective use of staff and supplies.
- Demonstrates ability to hold staff accountable to organization mission and vision and communicates
follow up with staff, family, patients and physicians in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Responds rapidly and effectively during emergency situations.
- Demonstrates through, concise and timely documentation when following up on patient care, quality or staff issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with a BS degree in nursing (preferred) or an ADN degree in nursing.
Work Experience:
Two to five years’ experience in nursing. Prior management experience is preferred, with demonstrated leadership behaviors. Must be able to clinically participate in all components of the nursing process specific to the type of patients on the unit.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
