Part-Time Gym Monitor
Be a positive role model in the lives of Vienna’s youth while working in a fun and energetic environment at the Vienna Community Center! The Department of Parks and Recreation is in search of individuals interested in the role of Gym Monitor.
The Part-Time Gym Monitor is responsible for the safe and orderly operation of gymnasium facilities during adult and youth drop-in programs. This includes opening and closing the gymnasiums, monitoring activities, enforcing facility rules, setting up and breaking down equipment, cleaning, and ensuring a positive and welcoming environment for all participants, and other duties as assigned. The Gym Monitor plays a key role in promoting sportsmanship, safety, and respectful behavior among youth and adult participants.
Work Hours:
Monday-Friday
Between 3:00pm-10:30pm. Hours May Vary.
Maximum of 25 hours a week
All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug test.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise gymnasium during scheduled adult and youth drop-in hours.
- Set up and take down sports equipment such as but not limited to, basketball hoops and volleyball nets.
- Monitor participant behavior to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
- Enforce facility rules and drop-in program guidelines fairly and consistently.
- Maintain accurate attendance records as needed.
- Communicate effectively with participants, staff, and supervisors.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, accidents, or conflicts and complete necessary reports.
- Assist in light cleaning and maintenance duties as needed.
- Provide basic first aid if trained and required.
- Serve as a positive role model, especially for youth participants.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience working with youth or recreational sports programs preferred.
- The ability to work independently and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs and perform light physical activity.
