The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation's tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). AIHEC supports American Indian and Alaska Native higher education through dedicated research and programmatic initiatives designed to strengthen Indigenous languages, cultures, and Tribal communities. By leveraging its unique position, AIHEC serves as a collaborative partner, providing essential services to member institutions and emerging TCUs. Additionally, AIHEC produces the Tribal College Journal (TCJ), a premier national publication sharing insights on American Indian education.Position SummaryThe Health Initiatives Specialist advances health projects by leading program activities, conducting research, and designing innovative solutions for TCUs. Working under the Program Director, this role identifies emerging needs, recommends program enhancements, contributes to the design of program activities, manages project workflows, assists with budget monitoring, and exercises independent judgment to meet program goals.This position will report to the Director of Health Initiatives.ResponsibilitiesProgram Support: Coordinate and implement grant activities. Identify emerging program needs or gaps and propose creative, evidence-based solutions to enhance program effectiveness.Design & Research: Contribute to program design by drafting concepts and gathering data for planning and continuous improvement.Financial & Resource Management: Track expenditures, monitor budgets, and identify resource needs.Operations: Coordinate project workflows, timelines, and deliverables across multiple initiatives and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.Engagement: Support partnership development by engaging with Tribal Colleges, faculty, students, and partner organizationsReporting & Communication: Prepare detailed grant, board, and programmatic reports, as well as general correspondence and memos.Engagement: Support partnership development with TCU students, faculty, and external organizations.Event Logistics: Assist in designing and delivering workshops, webinars, and outreach activities.Assisting the Director with other departmental initiatives, as required.
QualificationsMinimum RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in health (or related field) or equivalent experience.Experience:3-5years supporting health programs or projects.Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with budget/grant tracking.Competencies: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Preferred QualificationsExperience working in Indian Country and/or with TCUs.Familiarity with federal grant compliance and reporting.Proven ability to develop operational tools and proactive solutions.Physical Job RequirementsThe ability to communicate information and ideas, detect, determine, perceive, and observe details, particularly on a screen or on paper.This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors.This position may require remaining in a stationary position 50% or more of the time.The ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing.The ability to travel independently and attend off-site meetings and events as required by business needs.The candidate must be able to complete all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.Work Location and Travel Requirements
