The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees day-to-day QA/QC operations in the roasting plant and acts as the FSQA Manager in their absence. This position will supervise the priorities and activities performed by the quality technicians. This is a “hands on” role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, develop, and performance manage a team of QA/QC Technicians across multiple shifts.
  • Conduct Midyear and Annual Performance Reviews for all direct reports.
  • Support onboarding of new, temporary, or seasonal employees.
  • Act as a backup to the FSQA Manager when the FSQA Manager is out.
  • Foster a culture of quality and compliance across the organization.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control programs, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, regulatory requirements, and third-party audit standards (FSSC, FDA, AIB, QAI, etc.).
  • Assist in managing internal audits, trace exercises, and third-party audit preparation.
  • Support pest control, environmental monitoring, as well as HACCP, Food Safety, Food Defense and other related programs.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Monitor and analyze quality metrics (defects, exceptions, complaints)
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting of food safety incidents and corrective actions
  • Collect, analyze, and report on quality assurance data and findings.
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools for QA data.
  • Maintain accurate records for operations and QA activities.
Process Improvement & Operational Support
  • Drive initiatives to improve product consistency, reduce waste, and optimize process.
  • Coordinate & manage raw material receipts, non-conformance logging, and line trials for new materials.
  • Monitor lab supply inventory and ensure timely replenishment.
  • Manage scheduling and calibration of quality testing equipment.
  • Oversee departmental housekeeping and ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
Training & Development
  • Train QA employees on testing, hygiene practices, and quality control procedures.
  • Ensure team proficiency in quality systems and compliance protocols.
  • Participate in risk assessments and RCA meetings to identify hazards and develop mitigation strategies.

EDUCATION &PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in quality assurance, Engineering, Science, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required. Associate degree with relevant experience (10+ years) may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality assurance and food safety, preferably in food processing.
  • Experience as a trained quality auditor and in managing third-party audits.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, cGMPs (21 CFR 117), SQF, NOP Organic, Kosher, and other regulatory standards.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification required.
  • Proficiency with QA software (Redzone, D365) and ability to manage quality checks for SKUs and new product initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Team-oriented mindset with proven experience leading and supervising groups.
  • Ability to inspire change and drive operational efficiency.
  • Competence with computers, word processing, data entry, and basic spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools (process control, data analysis, sampling, experimental design) preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Project management skills preferred.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and vendors.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions in English.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems, D365 preferred.

The target annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 – $95,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including the applicant’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education, certifications or licenses, other legitimate non-discriminatory business factors, and the geographic location of the role. In addition to base pay, individuals in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
