Position Title: CSU Open Education Advocacy Fellow
Hiring Rate: $17.87/hourly
Position Description:
The CSU OEA Fellow is part of a team of students across five CSU campuses, with each fellow under the direction of their campus Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) Coordinator. The fellows are responsible for increasing student and Faculty awareness of free and low-cost educational resources on their campus, especially Open Educational Resources (OER), and promoting use of those resources with the goal of making a CSU education more affordable. They will collaborate to create marketing materials, staff events, perform outreach to faculty/student groups, support faculty in learning about, developing, and using OER, and help with basic data collection and management. They will also pursue policy advocacy work with student government, campus leadership, the California State Student Association (CSSA), and political leaders locally and statewide. Our ideal candidate would be enthusiastic, outgoing, and interested in advocating for fellow students across the CSU.

Required qualifications:
● Full-time enrolled undergraduate student
● Available to work a regular schedule, 10hrs/week (may include evenings/weekends)
● Comfort or experience with public speaking
● Interest in outreach to student peers, in person and online
● Teamwork skills
● Time management skills
● The ability to complete projects and assignments by stated deadlines
Preferred qualifications:
● Junior status (or equivalent familiarity with campus culture & community)
● Interest in equity and education
● Experience with advocacy work
● Leadership skills
● Experience tracking a budget
Position Responsibilities:
● Develop and implement campus-specific marketing and outreach campaigns to promote free and low-cost educational resources, including Open Educational Resources (OER), to students and faculty.
● Collaborate with fellow students across five CSU campuses to design and create engaging promotional materials (e.g., flyers, social media content, presentations) for AL$ and OER initiatives.
● Staff and coordinate informational events (e.g., workshops, tabling sessions) to increase awareness of textbook affordability options among the campus community.
● Conduct targeted outreach to faculty and student organizations to present information and resources regarding OER and Affordable Learning Solutions.
● Assist the AL$ Coordinator in supporting faculty who are learning about, adopting, or developing Open Educational Resources.
● Collect, organize, and manage basic data related to AL$ and OER usage, adoption, and impact on campus.
● Engage in policy advocacy by meeting with student government, campus leadership, CSSA representatives, and local/state political leaders to champion initiatives that increase textbook affordability.
● Participate in scheduled team meetings and trainings to coordinate activities and build skills in OER and advocacy.
The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
