About This Position
Custodial Staff
KeenLogic is seeking a Custodian to join our team at the House of Representatives Childcare Center on Capitol Hill. The purpose of the House Childcare Center (HRCCC) is to provide full-day, year-round quality childcare for children of the Members of the House of Representatives, their staff, and House support personnel.
The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment at the House of Representatives Childcare Center (HRCCC). This position supports daily facility operations by ensuring classrooms, common areas, and shared spaces meet high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to upholding safety protocols in a professional childcare setting.
This position provides staffing support for both planned extended leave (such as parental or medical leave) and short-term, on-call coverage needs. Assignments may be full-time (40 hours per week, Monday–Friday) for defined periods, or short-term based on operational needs. Shifts are scheduled within operating hours (8:00 AM – 6:30 PM) and consist of 8 working hours with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. Some roles may require availability on short notice.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, safe use of cleaning chemicals, and basic facility maintenance
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. for moving furniture and equipment, as well as the ability to routinely
- bend, lift, stoop, kneel, and squat
- Attention to detail, ability to follow safety protocols, and maintain a clean and sanitary
- environment
- Be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security checks as deemed appropriate
- Perform routine cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, common areas, and kitchen spaces.
- Ensure compliance with DC childcare health and safety regulations, including sanitation standards.
- Assist with facility-related tasks such as moving furniture, setting up rooms, and minor maintenance duties.
- Maintain proper storage and labeling of cleaning supplies.
- Follow all safety procedures for chemical handling and equipment use.
- Respond promptly to cleaning emergencies (e.g., spills, accidents).
- Ability to proactively observe emerging needs and willingness to take initiative without directives.
- Ability to maintain consistent and reliable attendance required. Flexibility with scheduling as needed.
- Daily cleaning duties such as sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces, restrooms, and high-touch areas.
- Empty trash and recycling bins.
- Move furniture and equipment as requested for classroom setups or events.
- Assist with unpacking supplies and maintaining inventory. Deliver requested supplies to classrooms.
- Assist with minor repairs or report maintenance issues to management.
- Maintain a safe environment.
- Work with day care staff to coordinate cleaning schedules and facility needs.
