About This Position
Legacy Engineering, P.C., is a small, woman-owned civil engineering firm specializing in land development design, geotechnical services, construction materials testing and inspections along with surveying and consulting. We are headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia and proudly serve clients throughout the Commonwealth.
As a Construction Material Technician I, you will be traveling to various construction sites to perform basic soil and concrete tests under the direction of project managers and other engineering professionals to verify that the contractor's work is performed in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out testing, observation and sampling of soil, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete on construction sites under the guidance of senior technicians, field services managers, and project managers
- Use various methodologies and testing equipment to perform field tests on soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete while maintaining industry standards and compliance
- Maintain daily communication with site contractors, project managers and field managers regarding site conditions or additional requested testing
- Prepare detailed reports (written and with a computer) and accurate test results based on field observations
- Safely use and maintain testing equipment
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Previous construction or field-testing experience (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- A problem solver who can deal with a variety of variables at once
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 85 pounds
- Must be able to walk and stand continuously throughout the day
- Must have valid driver’s license and insurance
- Must have reliable transportation
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications with organizations such as OSHA, ACI, ASNT, ICC, VDOT, WACEL
