Quality Champion Medical Assistant

Location: Linville, North Carolina | Outpatient Clinics | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

As a Quality Champion Medical Assistant at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll play a vital role in advancing high-quality, patient-centered care across our outpatient clinics. This position supports ongoing Epic and PCIC initiatives by improving clinical workflows, enhancing data accuracy, and driving performance improvement efforts.

You’ll serve as a bridge between clinical teams and quality initiatives—supporting system optimization, training, panel management, and care gap closure. This is an ideal opportunity for a Medical Assistant who is passionate about quality improvement, data-driven decision-making, and improving outcomes for primary care patients.

Compensation: Starts at $24.58 and is commensurate with education, experience, certification, and internal equity
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

What You’ll Do as a Quality Champion Medical Assistant
  • Support Epic and PCIC initiatives to improve clinical workflows and patient care delivery.

  • Oversee panel management for PCIC and assist in resolving patient attribution issues.

  • Identify and help close care gaps for primary care patients to support quality targets.

  • Monitor and track quality metrics, ensuring timely and accurate data reporting.

  • Assist with system enhancements, workflow optimization, and end-user support.

  • Collaborate with providers and clinic staff to promote patient-centered care practices.

  • Provide training and support related to Epic workflows and quality processes.

  • Analyze data trends and assist in implementing performance improvement strategies.

  • Act as a liaison between clinical teams and quality improvement leadership.

Qualifications Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred

Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting required

  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system preferred

  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives, healthcare compliance, or patient-centered care strongly preferred

Licensure & Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire

  • Epic certification in relevant modules preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with panel management and care gap closure processes preferred

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data effectively

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate with clinical and administrative teams

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

  • Proficiency in healthcare quality data systems and reporting tools

  • Experience with data analysis and performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) preferred

  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare IT platforms

  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

  • Manual dexterity for computer-based tasks and data entry

Work Environment
  • Primarily office or clinic-based setting

  • Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday

  • May require travel between outpatient clinic locations

  • Frequent collaboration with clinical and administrative teams
