Join Our Engineering Team
CHL Systems is seeking a Director of Project Management who will provide strategic, operational, and organizational leadership for CHL Systems' Project Management function. This role is accountable for the successful execution of the company's full project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with customer, technical, and business objectives.
The Director establishes project delivery standards, governance, and performance expectations while leading and developing the Project Management team. This position oversees resource planning, project execution strategy, and cross-functional coordination to ensure alignment across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Operations, and Field Service.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Project Management drives continuous improvement in project execution, financial performance, and delivery consistency. This role contributes to strategic planning, organizational capacity forecasting, and operational excellence to strengthen CHL Systems' ability to deliver complex engineered systems successfully and profitably.

What You'll Do
Project Management Leadership & Department Management
- Provide overall leadership of the Project Management function, including Project Managers and related roles
- Establish departmental goals, execution standards, and performance expectations
- Develop staffing strategies, resource plans, and organizational structure to support business growth
- Mentor and develop project management personnel, building leadership capability and execution consistency
- Lead performance management, career development, and succession planning for the Project Management team
Project Portfolio Governance & Execution Oversight
- Oversee execution of the full project portfolio, ensuring alignment with customer commitments and business objectives
- Monitor key delivery metrics including schedule adherence, budget performance, margin, and quality outcomes
- Establish and enforce project management standards, methodologies, and governance processes
- Identify and mitigate execution risks across projects, ensuring proactive resolution of issues impacting delivery
- Ensure consistent and effective project planning, documentation, and execution practices
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Organizational Alignment
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Operations, and Field Service to ensure coordinated project execution
- Support opportunity development by providing project execution insight, risk assessment, and resource planning
- Participate in cross-functional planning sessions to ensure readiness and alignment across departments
- Operate as a peer leader with Engineering and Manufacturing leadership to support consistent project delivery
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring project delivery aligns with expectations and contractual commitments
- Serve as executive-level escalation point for major project risks or delivery challenges
- Support customer meetings, project reviews, and strategic discussions regarding execution and performance
- Ensure clear communication of project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders and leadership
Financial Performance, Budgeting & Reporting
- Monitor project portfolio financial performance including revenue, margin, and cost control
- Support forecasting of resource demand, project revenue, and execution capacity
- Review project and company KPIs related to delivery, profitability, labor utilization, and schedule performance
- Provide regular performance updates to executive leadership and recommend corrective actions when necessary
- Own Project Management department performance metrics and drive execution improvements
Continuous Improvement & Process Development
- Lead improvements in project execution processes, tools, and governance standards
- Drive consistency, scalability, and efficiency in project delivery across the organization
- Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and strengthen execution practices
- Promote structured continuous improvement initiatives including workflow optimization and performance standardization
Physical Demands
- Regular movement between office, manufacturing floor, and project environments
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to inspect and evaluate equipment, systems, and installations
- Manual dexterity required for computer use and documentation
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or related technical discipline preferred
- 10+ years of progressive experience in project management within manufacturing, industrial automation, or engineered systems environments
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading project managers or technical teams
- Proven success managing complex, multi-phase capital or engineered system projects from concept through commissioning
- Experience managing project portfolios, resource planning, and execution performance
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of project lifecycle management, scheduling, budgeting, and resource forecasting
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineered equipment, and system integration
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Knowledge of project financials, margin performance, and cost control principles
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, project management software, and performance reporting tools
- Understanding of risk management, project governance, and execution best practices
Leadership & Communication Skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing project management teams
- Strong strategic thinking and decision-making capability
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage executive leadership, customers, and cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage competing priorities and drive execution across multiple complex initiatives
- Strong organizational leadership with a focus on accountability, performance, and continuous improvement
Work Environment
- Office setting within a manufacturing and engineered systems environment
- Regular interaction with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams
- Exposure to industrial equipment, machinery, and fabrication processes when visiting production areas
- Required adherence to company safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Occasional travel to customer sites, vendor locations, or installations (approximately 10%)
