Position Summary:

The Substation Project Manager leads the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of high-voltage substation projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and technical standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, OSHA). They manage project scope, financial performance, client relationships, and cross-functional teams from inception to closeout.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management & Execution: Manage the full project lifecycle, including scope, schedule, budget, risk assessment, and contract administration.
  • Design & Construction Coordination: Oversee substation design, equipment procurement, site construction, and testing/commissioning.
  • Safety & Quality Assurance: Ensure all project activities adhere to industry regulations and internal safety standards (SPCC plans, NESC, ANSI, IEEE).
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor project staff, including engineers and designers.
  • Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and managing expectations.
  • Financial Control: Oversee project budgets, monthly financial updates, and invoicing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with substation, high-voltage transmission, or distribution line projects.
  • Understanding of substation equipment (breakers, transformers), electrical systems, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost management systems.
  • Typically requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is often preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to remain in a seated position for an extended period and to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (office manuals, case notebooks, case files, case materials, standard boxes, report binders, etc.) as needed.
