About This Position
Job Title: Mechanical Technician
Reports To: Service Manager
Summary: The Mechanical Technician is responsible for assembling components according to blueprints, manuals, engineering requirements and customer specifications. This includes tool construction, tool rebuild, product fit up, system assembly and tryout.
Responsibilities:
- Read, understand and follow engineering prints, shop orders, and standard work documents to accomplish the assembly, tryout, dimensional requirements, buyoff, tear down and shipment to customer facility
- Assemble units and complete tools according to design specifications
- Layout plant floor to set up equipment to design specification
- Disassembly, rigging of equipment, and packaging of equipment to load on trucks
- Rework, repair, and rebuild any used or existing tooling to be remanufactured
- Perform all other duties, as assigned
Requirements:
- 3+ years recent experience in mechanical assembly or machine building preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of a tool building apprenticeship or journeyman’s preferred
- Knowledge and skills to assemble units and complete tools to design specifications
- Previous Experience with disassembly, rigging of equipment, and packaging of equipment
- Machining background (Bridgeport, drill press, grinding) preferred
- Experience with tool building, tool set up and troubleshooting
- Ability to fit product to tooling to achieve repeatability and dimensional quality
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics and engineering drawings
- Ability to operate overhead cranes and fork trucks
- Must have own tools
- Ability to work with other personnel and customers in a professional manner
- Knowledge of automated welding systems preferred
- Travel up to 80% within the NAFTA region up to two weeks
Work Environment: This position operates in both an office environment and plant environment.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and be present on the plant floor or customer facility. This includes the ability to move into and around tooling, climb ladders and to lift 25 pounds.
Expected Hours of Work: This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
Travel: This position requires out of town and overnight travel.
