Videographer at Vancouver Art Gallery – Vancouver, British Columbia

Reporting to the Video Production Lead, the Videographer performs a variety of duties such as planning logistics, timelines and technical requirements for video production and post-production, performing technical and creative production work and consulting with staff requesting video production projects to assess requirements. This role requires a skilled and creative videographer with experience in events and proficiency in post-processing software. You will work on an occasional basis and may be called upon as needed to support events, recorded interviews and other projects as required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Work closely with internal departments and individuals directing productions and overseeing events, programs or exhibitions to create documentation and media content
• Make recommendations for creative solutions to content that enhances the Gallery’s programs, communications and brand
• Perform technical and creative production work which includes camera operation, studio lighting techniques and audio recording
• Perform technical and creative post-production work which can include editing, colour correction, graphics, titling, processing and output
• Operation and maintenance of professional production equipment
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and advances in related technologies in video production
• Model respectful and inclusive workplace behaviour through a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusionensuring these principles are embedded in all the work we do

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

As a qualified candidate you have completed post-secondary courses in media arts or video production and have at least two (2) years’ experience in video production, including the operation and maintenance of professional video equipment, or a combination of education and experience. The work includes video camera operation, professional knowledge of digital workflows and file management, timeline scheduling, inter-departmental communication, and some heavy lifting. Additionally, the videographer will have:

• Ability to think innovatively and creatively in planning interpretive and documentary video productions and interviews, with a continuous improvement perspective and incorporating best practices
• Thorough knowledge of video production equipment and lighting techniques, as well as media production software and editing processes
• Excellent understanding of post-production workflows and the organization of content assets
• Strong communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, and time management skills
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other staff at the Vancouver Art Gallery, artists and the public
• Must be able to work in a safe and responsible manner, both individually and as part of a team
• Previous experience in a gallery, museum or professional art environment isan asset
• Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) preferred

COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Salary: Pay Grade 19, $28.45 to $33.11 per hour

Schedule: On-Call/Casual

This is a unionized position. This assignment falls under the jurisdiction of CUPE Local 15 – VMECW. This is an in-office position at the Gallery’s downtown Vancouver location.
