About this location:

This position is located at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in San Luis Obispo, CA. Nestled in the heart of California’s Central Coast, our all-suite hotel offers convenient access to downtown SLO, local wineries, and scenic hiking trails. Surrounded by rolling hills and just minutes from the beach, our property provides the perfect home base for guests to relax, explore, and experience the charm of the Central Coast.

Why do we need you?

Responsible for attainment of assigned goals tied to the overall performance of the hotel. The individual will be responsible for effectively soliciting and securing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts and implement the sales and marketing strategies to maximize profits of the hotel while maintaining customer satisfaction. The Catering Manager will work in conjunction with the Director of Sales to meet the revenue goals, oversee the successful execution of the events and maintain the daily operations of the Catering Department.

What you will do:

  1. Effectively attain assigned sales and revenue goals as well as solicitation call goals
  2. Develop and execute business plans for designated markets
  3. Proactively conduct solicitation calls (emails and phone), hotel site tours, client’s offsite visits specific to assigned market segment, using all available technology, in order to generate new leads
  4. Develop and continually enhance relationships with assigned accounts to maintain high visibility and increase market share
  5. Aim to maximize revenue in rooms, public space, food and beverage, and ancillary products and services.
  6. Monitor and evaluate trends within assigned market segment.
  7. Keep excellent record of all client interactions within the sales tool
  8. Ensure client communication and lead response is professional, effective and timely
  9. Maintain an updated pipeline of business opportunities and be ready to share progress at all times
  10. Participate in Daily Business Review and adhere to rate quotes guidelines
  11. Prepare and present effective, personalized and creative proposals
  12. Negotiate and execute contracts that are fair, profitable and have received approval from Director of Sales
  13. Assist Director of Sales in building standard menus, specialized menus and packages and conduct regular competitive pricing analysis
  14. Develop a full working knowledge of the operations and policies of the hotel and applicable departments
  15. Interface with kitchen and banquet departments regarding specific client needs.
  16. Prepare, distribute and review all Banquet Event Order with the Hotel Team in a timely manner and while ensuring its accuracy
  17. Lead Banquet Event Order meetings
  18. Ensure changes are communicated timely to impacted departments/operations leaders
  19. Assume responsibility for the successful set-up and execution of social and corporate meetings, meals, and special events
  20. Ensure Banquet checks have been signed at conclusion of events and final payment secured
  21. Assist Director of Sales with catering forecasts and reports
  22. Develop active communications and close rapport with Convention & Visitors Bureau, National Sales Offices, Planners Associations, Chamber of Commerce, and other sources of sales information and support
  23. Travel locally to conduct outside calls, promote the hotel, and review competition
  24. Participate in trade shows and community and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and the achievement of revenue goals
  25. Supports and adheres to the core values, the mission statement, service fundamentals, and guest service philosophy as defined by the company.
  26. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales or General Manager

Skills and abilities you bring:

  • Ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced environment, able to deliver effective results, meet tight deadlines and targets
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Create new ways of presenting information that will attract peoples’ attention
  • Frequently change from one activity to another, for example, writing a speech, giving a speech, and writing a report of campaign progress
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive friendly courteous and service-oriented manner
  • Have working knowledge of room set-ups, including audio/visual equipment
  • Have working knowledge of food & beverage, menu pricing and menu design

Schedule & Hours: This is a full-time exempt role that typically follows a Monday–Friday schedule. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and varying hours as needed is required.
