GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the role of the Lead Medical Assistant to ensure the provision of consistent high-quality care to patients at DePaul Community Health Centers. The Lead Medical Assistant is required to perform all duties of a Medical Assistant and functions as a resource for the Medical Assistants, Patient Representative team and other non- licensed associates. The Lead Medical Assistant works collaboratively with the teams to drive Quality Improvement initiatives and performance improvement. The Lead Medical Assistant reports to the Operations Manager and keeps them abreast of concerns and issues that may impact the provision of safe patient care.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Is knowledgeable of and applies the Mission, Vision and Values of Ascension DePaul Services

  • Serves as patients’ primary point of contact for clinical services provided within the health center

  • Works closely and collaboratively with Patient Access Supervisors and Providers to assure smooth clinical operations.

  • Works with the Medical Assistant Clinical Trainer on the orientation of new hires and a warm hand off at the completion of orientation.

  • Ensures Medical Assistants provide a positive experience for patients and safe care. Helps to resolve patient issues.

  • Promotes teamwork and a positive attitude amongst all associates.

  • Provides backup support to Medical Assistants which includes lunch coverage on the floor and when needed.

  • Acts as the first level go-to person for the providers and staff regarding investigating and troubleshooting issues.

  • Provides and documents routine inspections of clinical equipment; ensures proper cleaning and storage of equipment.

  • Conducts daily checks of exam rooms for standard stocking and cleanliness

  • May serve as the onsite VOMS personnel and liaison between DePaul and VFC.

  • Uses established channels of communication and proper lines of authority for problem solving and communication.

  • Supervises medical assistants and laboratory technicians. Provide on-going valuable, objective, and constructive feedback regarding job performance.

  • Assures efficient flow of operations to reduce wait times for patients within the health center.

  • Completes Medical Assistant chart checks for accuracy and completeness.

  • Oversees daily quality control

  • May participate in the interview and selection process of MA applicants.

  • Assists Operations Manager in developing the weekly MA work schedules.

  • Collaborates with Operations Manager on performance evaluations for assigned MA(s)

  • Serves as site EMR super-user and provides training, update information and other key communications regarding the EMR.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the individual is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle and operate tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, balance, kneel, bend, carry, reach, push, pull, lift, twist, grip, and communicate (talk and hear). 80% of the time is stationary/sitting. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

Sustained mental effort is regularly required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is normally performed inside with in temperature-controlled environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must possess a minimum of five years clinical experience

  • Basic computer skills required and possess excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to pay attention to details

  • Exhibit professional behavior and communication skills

  • Ability to become an electronic medical record super user and trainer.

  • Ability to function within accepted Medical Assistant and medical standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
