Director of Compliance Risk Management at Circular Action Alliance – Remote
About This Position
Role Overview
The Director of Compliance Risk Management will provide strategic leadership and oversight of Circular Action Alliance’s (CAA) regulatory compliance and enterprise risk functions. The Director will guide the development and implementation of extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. They will play a key role in developing policies and proposals, risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with CAA’s approved program plan in each state where it is the approved PRO. This position will serve on the National Program Planning and Operations Team and report to the Vice President of EPR Regulatory Compliance.
The Director will uphold governance structures to ensure consistent adherence across all programs and jurisdictions. They will also guide regulatory interpretation and represent the organization in high-level engagements with regulators and other interested parties in the industry. The Director will build, mentor, and manage a team of compliance professionals to execute day-to-day operations and deliver on strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Oversight
- Provide enterprise leadership for compliance strategy and execution, ensuring full adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements across all state and national Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Establish and standardize national reporting frameworks, guiding the development of policies and protocols to ensure accuracy, transparency, and alignment with state Program Plan commitments.
- Direct the organization’s risk management strategy, identifying, evaluating, and mitigating compliance-related exposures through structured risk assessment and monitoring programs.
- Ensure producer reporting requirements are satisfactorily met:
- Conduct producer reporting reviews to confirm reporting accuracy.
- Develop tools to assess product exemptions and compliance risks.
- Identify under or over reporting trends in producer submissions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams—including Producer Services, Data & Analytics, and Materials Management—to integrate compliance and risk management into operational planning and execution.
Talent Development & Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and manage a team of compliance and risk management professionals to execute day-to-day operations and deliver on strategic objectives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration across staff and interested parties.
- Represent CAA in industry forums and regulatory discussions to promote harmonization and advance compliance practices.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in regulatory compliance risk management
- Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., public policy, sustainability, environmental science)required; advanced degree in related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of EPR, product stewardship, or packaging regulatory landscape.
- Experience with statutory and regulatory interpretation and compliance analysis including development of compliance plans and frameworks.
- Demonstrated success in statutory/regulatory interpretation and compliance analysis across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience in risk assessment, audit processes, and development of compliance controls.
Compensation & Other Information
- Location: Remote with potential for in person times and travel for conferences or other applicable events
- Compensation: Competitive based on experience and skills
- Reports To: Vice President of EPR Regulatory Compliance
