The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Manager, Financial Reporting to join our Financial Reporting team. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:
Manage, prepare, and analyze complex internal and external financial information and reporting including financial statements, supporting information, annual reports, year-end projections, presentation materials for Board of Trustees and senior management, surveys and other reports.
Oversee lease accounting interpreting and implementing accounting standards related to leases (ASC 842), with anticipated additional complex accounting topics/areas.
Understand and interpret accounting regulations as promulgated and interpreted by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), and other relevant organizations.
Knowledge of GAAP (with college and university specific experience) and the ability to implement such principles within the university’s accounting policies and procedures.
Oversee financial statement audit, prepare financial statements, audit schedules, and footnote disclosures, and correspond with internal and external auditors.
Evaluate financial data to identify issues, trends, and opportunities for operational improvement; make recommendations to continuously improve financial reporting.
Formulate, implement, and improve fiscal policies and procedures; educate and advise on the interpretation of such policies.
Resolve and effectively document highly complex, non-routine accounting and financial reporting transactions.Serve as liaison between internal and external stakeholders regarding financial matters and issues; assist departments and related personnel with understanding strategic goals and identifying operational improvements.
Strong accounting, management, analytical, communication, and information technology skills are essential with the ability to manage tight deadlines and ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
Support the Director of Financial Reporting and Assistant Controller with a variety of duties and goals not only within the Financial Reporting department but also the Controller’s Office and ultimately the Executive Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance and CFO, and the Plan for Pitt 2028.
Supervise 1 or more Financial Analysts or other Financial Reporting staff. Special projects as needed.
Job Summary
Oversees university-wide budgetary, financial reporting, and financial planning processes and leads team. Monitors the University’s finances continuously and crafts complex reports and analyses. Manages, prepares, reconciles, and analyzes budgets, financial statements, supporting schedules, and other financial surveys. Allocates funds, oversees the budget modification process, audit scheduling, audits and interacts with internal and external auditors. Reviews fiscal proposals, resolves inquiries, provides feedback, and maintains records. Aids in revising and ensuring adherence to fiscal policies and procedures and regulations including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Position requires the use of a computer for long periods daily.

Little physical effort is required. No heavy lifting, but due to use of computer, will be sitting for prolonged periods of time.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: CPA certification is required due to the highly complex nature of accounting for colleges and universities and the responsibility for the financial reporting of an institution with assets of nearly $11 billion.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
