Production Supervisor Summary

  • Manages Extrusion Line Operations and workflow. Drives Continuous Improvement, 5s, operator training, quality, and process documentation. Maintains open lines of communication within and across shifts and holds direct reports accountable to WMC processes and procedures. Has, or is willing to gain knowledge, in the extrusion of plastics polymers. Uses ERP system to transfer materials and disposition them to work performed on your respective shift.
  • Essential Functions

  • Adheres to WMC’s quality management system.
  • Enforces safety and procedural regulations in accordance with WMC practices.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of production operators. Informs the Extrusion Line Operators about their required work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Confers with other management to coordinate operations and activities between departments. Works with other Production Supervisors to ensure smooth shift changes.
  • Publishes the Production Shift Report to be reported to WMC Management team.
  • Monitors and reports on Production KPI’s.
  • Maintains operations data, such as time, production, and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Inspects materials, products, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions and ensure quality standards are being met.
  • Observes work and monitors to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Oversees employee training in equipment operations and work and safety procedures or assign employee training to experienced workers.
  • Oversees the training of new and existing operators and documents their progress.
  • Interprets specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
  • Requisitions materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services in conjunction with the Maintenance Department.
  • Confers with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems or complaints.
  • Updates Production Manager with adjustments to employees' attendance records.
  • Oversees the set up and adjustment of machines and equipment.
  • Recommends or implements measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Drives Continuous Improvement, 5s, and Lean Manufacturing methodology.
  • Oversees onboarding of new hire training and delivers 90-day performance evaluation.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with direct reports, other shifts, and members of management.
  • Possess soft skills for coaching and conflict resolution.
  • Along with management, maintains accountability for direct reports including Corrective Actions, Performance Improvement Plan, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Records details of machine malfunctions.
  • Notifies other workers of quality defects and directs them to adjust extruding and forming machines.
  • Safety Requirements: Understand and follow all WMC Health & Safety Practices. Report all injuries and unsafe work conditions. Attend mandatory safety training and request additional training as needed.
  • Supervisory Duties

  • Directly leads the production department employees, including Extrusion Line Operators, in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable Federal and State laws.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Qualifications Required

  • Production Oriented: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Dependability: Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Leadership: Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Attention to Detail: Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Integrity: Job requires being honest and ethical.
  • Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED mandatory. Some college preferred.
  • 3-5 Years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in managing a staff.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in plastic resin compounding/recycling (Preferred)
  • 1-3 Years of experience in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (Required)
  • Mathematical Skills

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Technical Proficiencies Required

  • Basic mechanical skills, knowledge of machines and tools.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Quality Systems, and data base management.
  • Ability to use, or gain, knowledge in Plastics Extrusion.
  • Work Environment

    Indoor/office environment
