As a Software Engineer on the Payments team, you will help build and maintain a highly scalable and reliable payments platform that moves billions of dollars across multiple countries and currencies. You will focus on the post-transaction risk space, designing systems to detect, mitigate, and resolve disputes and chargebacks while minimizing financial losses. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including product, data science, and operations, you will contribute to building robust infrastructure, integrating third-party payment networks, and continuously improving system observability and reliability. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact engineering challenges in a fully remote U.S.-based environment while contributing to the security and efficiency of global payments.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable services and infrastructure to mitigate disputes and chargebacks across the payments platform
  • Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and operations teams to develop actionable business insights and enhance risk systems
  • Integrate with third-party vendors and payment networks to strengthen in-house chargeback mitigation capabilities
  • Develop, iterate, and optimize dispute and remediation strategies as risk scenarios evolve
  • Ensure high system observability through continuous monitoring, alerting, and improvements in operational efficiency
  • Follow engineering best practices, including modular design, well-defined APIs, and automated testing
  • Contribute to cross-team initiatives to advance engineering processes and technical foundations

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in Payments or Fintech as a backend software engineer
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Java, Kotlin, or Python preferred); experience with React or equivalent JavaScript frameworks is a plus
  • Familiarity with high-scale web application architecture, APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms
  • Strong track record of delivering end-to-end software products, from ideation to implementation and testing
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating technical solutions into business outcomes
  • Knowledge of experimentation, machine learning techniques, and data-driven decision-making
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with fraud detection, payments risk, or spam mitigation is a plus

Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary ($162,000–$186,000 USD) with potential for bonus, equity, and other performance incentives
  • Fully remote U.S.-based work with flexibility and occasional optional office/offsite opportunities
  • Comprehensive health, wellness, and retirement benefits
  • Paid time off, parental leave, and work-life balance support
  • Learning and development opportunities, including skill growth and cross-functional collaboration
  • Inclusive, diverse, and innovation-focused team culture
