As a Software Engineer on the Payments team, you will help build and maintain a highly scalable and reliable payments platform that moves billions of dollars across multiple countries and currencies. You will focus on the post-transaction risk space, designing systems to detect, mitigate, and resolve disputes and chargebacks while minimizing financial losses. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including product, data science, and operations, you will contribute to building robust infrastructure, integrating third-party payment networks, and continuously improving system observability and reliability. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact engineering challenges in a fully remote U.S.-based environment while contributing to the security and efficiency of global payments.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable services and infrastructure to mitigate disputes and chargebacks across the payments platform
- Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and operations teams to develop actionable business insights and enhance risk systems
- Integrate with third-party vendors and payment networks to strengthen in-house chargeback mitigation capabilities
- Develop, iterate, and optimize dispute and remediation strategies as risk scenarios evolve
- Ensure high system observability through continuous monitoring, alerting, and improvements in operational efficiency
- Follow engineering best practices, including modular design, well-defined APIs, and automated testing
- Contribute to cross-team initiatives to advance engineering processes and technical foundations
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in Payments or Fintech as a backend software engineer
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Java, Kotlin, or Python preferred); experience with React or equivalent JavaScript frameworks is a plus
- Familiarity with high-scale web application architecture, APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms
- Strong track record of delivering end-to-end software products, from ideation to implementation and testing
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating technical solutions into business outcomes
- Knowledge of experimentation, machine learning techniques, and data-driven decision-making
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Experience with fraud detection, payments risk, or spam mitigation is a plus
