The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.As part of our AI & Flight Software Organization within the Blue National Security business unit, you'll both contribute to and lead the development of critical vehicle management systems that ensure the safety and reliability of our spacecraft. This balanced role allows you to maintain your technical expertise while growing as a leader, directly impacting our nation's capabilities in space while establishing new standards for spacecraft autonomy and resilience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage the embedded software engineering team responsible for Vehicle Management and Test systems
- Actively contribute to technical design and implementation, dedicating approximately 50% of time to hands-on software development
- Drive the development of flight software for vehicle health management, fault detection, and recovery
- Write, review, and debug code for critical vehicle management components and test frameworks
- Establish technical direction and software architecture for test automation and verification systems
- Oversee the integration of software with vehicle subsystems and test equipment
- Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and technical risk mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with systems engineering to define and implement software requirements for vehicle management
- Ensure software quality through rigorous verification and validation processes
- Provide technical leadership and career development for team members, focusing 50% of time on team management and growth
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
- 6+ years of experience in embedded software development with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Current hands-on technical proficiency in vehicle management systems and test automation
- Experience managing teams developing software for vehicle management systems or test automation
- Strong understanding of fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) concepts
- Proficiency in embedded C/C++ programming for real-time applications
- Experience with embedded operating systems and hardware interfaces
- Knowledge of software development methodologies for safety-critical systems
- Experience with automated test frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to lead technical discussions
Preferred Qualifications;
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in aerospace embedded software development
- Experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle management systems
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks and continuous integration practices
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical contributions with leadership responsibilities
- Experience applying Generative AI in the embedded software domain
Compensation Range for:
CO applicants is $181,144.00 - $253,601.25WA applicants is $197,004.00 - $275,805.60Other site ranges may differ
