Job Summary
Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the Flexographic Printing Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining flexographic printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials in accordance with production specifications, quality standards, and operational efficiency targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate flexographic printing presses for production runs
- Mount plates/cylinders and perform press adjustments
- Control ink flow, colour consistency, and viscosity
- Conduct test runs and ensure proper registration and print quality
- Monitor production using control systems and make real-time adjustments
- Maintain consistent print quality throughout the production cycle
- Troubleshoot press issues to minimize downtime and waste
- Set up and adjust in-line finishing equipment
- Maintain scrap levels within acceptable thresholds
- Clean and store printing plates and cylinders after use
- Perform routine maintenance and minor mechanical adjustments
- Prepare materials (film, cylinders, inks) ahead of production runs
- Ensure availability of inks, solvents, and supplies
- Complete quality control documentation and production check sheets
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Support and guide Press Helpers as required
- Comply with all Food Safety, product quality, and Occupational Health & Safety policies
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating flexographic printing presses in a manufacturing environment
- Additional experience (4–5+ years) considered an asset
- Experience with multi-colour printing, registration, and quality control processes
- Strong understanding of ink systems, viscosity control, and press adjustments
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot press-related issues
- Ability to maintain consistent quality standards in a fast-paced production setting
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to inks, solvents, and machinery
- Standing for extended periods
- Shift work may be required
