Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation (BBAHC) is a tribal health organization that represents 28 tribes throughout the region, which is approximately 35,000 square miles.

BBAHC is comprised of four subregions, each distinct in history, culture, natural resources, and community priorities. The regions include: Nushagak River & Bay Central, Southern, Western, and Kvichak Bay & North Side Peninsula. BBAHC manages the Bristol Bay Service Unit for the Indian Health Service and has done so since 1980. The main campus of the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation is in Dillingham, which is located at the confluence of the Nushagak and Wood River systems and is a regional hub of the Bristol Bay salmon fishing district.

BBAHC operates the Kanakanak Hospital along with 21 Village Clinics, all of which are HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) Clinics. Clinical services include: Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, Laboratory, Dental, Optometry, Audiology, and Physical Therapy. The Kanakanak Campus also includes a residential treatment facility and a behavioral health counseling center. BBAHC is Joint Commission Accredited and upholds high standards for quality patient care.

About the Role:

The Staff Pharmacist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient dispensing of medications to patients within a healthcare or retail setting. This position involves verifying prescriptions, counseling patients on proper medication use, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize therapeutic outcomes. The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements and pharmacy laws while managing inventory and ensuring the accuracy of medication records. This role demands a commitment to patient safety, attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate care and clear communication. Ultimately, the Staff Pharmacist contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community by delivering expert pharmaceutical services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school, completion of one (1) year internship and a current license to practice in any state of the United States is required.
  • State of Alaska Pharmacist license is preferred.
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid pharmacist license to practice in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective patient counseling and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in sterile and non-sterile compounding in accordance with USP standard.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) experience.
  • Experience working in a retail, hospital, or clinical pharmacy setting.
  • Certification in immunization delivery or other specialized pharmacy services.
  • Knowledge of medication therapy management (MTM) and patient safety initiatives.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages to better serve diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance audits and quality assurance processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately review and dispense prescription medications in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • Provide patient counseling on medication usage, potential side effects, and interactions to promote safe and effective therapy.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care and resolve any medication-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including prescription histories and inventory management.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations, including controlled substance handling.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with pharmaceutical advancements.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory by ordering, receiving, and properly storing medications to prevent shortages or waste.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff to maintain efficient pharmacy operations.
