THE POSITION

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Modification Shop, supervising staff, and ensuring quality control in all modification projects. This role involves coordinating production schedules, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, and supporting various operational needs as directed by the Senior Director of Production.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and manage shop & yard personnel, include welders, framers, painters, shop assistants, and machine operators, ensuring efficient scheduling and timekeeping.
  • Oversee and participate in modification work, including spray paint booth operations and facility maintenance.
  • Ensure quality control for all modification projects, maintaining compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of lift equipment in the shop and spray paint booth.
  • Procure, track, and manage tools, materials, and supplies required for modification work.
  • Liaise with Operations staff responsible for equipment control and customer service
  • Assist in identifying labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Address and resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Collaborate internally on Modification Shop-related matters; and coordinate with Sales Yard staff responsible for equipment control and customer service.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints in coordination with the Senior Director of Production
  • Participate in Interport safety programs and ensure adherence to workplace policies and procedures
  • Assist with special projects and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in container modification, metalworking, or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in production or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience with steel fabrication, including cutting, welding, burning, and plasma cutting
  • Construction skills including carpentry and basic wiring
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and sit, stand, or walk for extended periods at a time
  • Ability to work in Interport’s Spray Paint Booth, including wearing and working with a respirator
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in different weather conditions
  • Proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to commute to Newark, NJ, with a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, an ability to use ERP system (NetSuite), a good understanding of data analysis methods, and attention to detail

PREFERRED/PLUS

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with ISO container maintenance and repair standards
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or experience

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time exempt position that requires flexibility to support business needs; however, the standard hours for the Modification Shop are between 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
