About This Position

RN Sonographer - Antepartum Testing

Under the supervision of the Department Manager, the Senior RN Sonographer of Antepartum Testing will be expected to provide the highest quality Antepartum imaging care to our patients and referring services. You will work collaboratively with staff to prioritize and organize schedules and to triage routine and emergent procedures. The SR RN Sonographer is key in mentoring the technical and support staff and coordinating imaging and procedural education and training. You’ll assist department management in the daily operations of the departments, working closely with patients, medical staff, and other internal teams. As the SR RN Sonographer, you will perform direct patient care, data entry operations using appropriate hospital software packages, and obstetrical diagnostic/therapeutic procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. You will assume responsibility for tasks and procedures as assigned. You must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit. The SR RN Sonographer provides specialized technical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and medical knowledge, including anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and is responsible for supplies on hand for procedures while keeping supply costs as close to budget as possible.
Hourly Pay Range: $43.22 - $63.75
Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires an associate degree in nursing and a completed certification program in ultrasound.
Experience:
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of broad-based experience in Antepartum Sonography that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of high-risk Antepartum sonography.
  • Previous experience with Maternal Fetal Medicine is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Amniocentesis preferred.
  • Prefer two (2) or more years of Labor and Delivery and OB/GYN experience.
  • Prefer two (2) or more years in a high-risk Antepartum setting.
Specialized Training:
  • High-risk obstetrical sonography to include multi-gestational pregnancies and fetal anomalies.
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification is required.
  • Experience with Infusion therapy administration preferred.
  • Experience with Periwatch preferred.
  • Experience with Trophon preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
  • Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.
  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification.
  • Requires BLS issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within 90 days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate competent performance in Antepartum scans.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must work well with all departments and personnel related to antepartum testing activities, including additional technical and nursing staff, secretarial support, medical staff, and vendors.
  • Must be able to utilize inductive thinking for the performance of many of the tests, along with the ability to evaluate patients in a subjective manner.
  • Must be able to work independently and be motivated to accomplish tasks that require self-direction.
  • Must communicate effectively with providers and other support staff to schedule tests and report results accurately.
  • Must be responsible so that day-to-day activities will be accomplished effectively and efficiently.
  • Requires knowledge of the importance of infection control, prevention of cross-contamination, and various methods of decontaminating equipment used.
  • Must be proficient in computer systems, with knowledge of medical imaging information systems, including PACS.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's departmental policies and procedures.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
