Under the authority of the Director of Operations, the Production Mechanical Engineering Technician acts as the link between the Research and Development team and the production floor. Their central role is to transform design drawings from R&D into complete, precise, and usable manufacturing documentation for production and assembly teams.

The position also involves CAM programming for automated production equipment (laser and plasma cutting, CNC press brakes, robotic welding cells) and overseeing the design and manufacturing of production jigs, whether manual or robotic. The technician ensures strict management of technical drawings, maintains bills of materials, and provides technical support to production managers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of R&D design drawings and convert them into shop-ready manufacturing drawings for production.
• Develop detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs based on 3D models.
• Validate manufacturability with production stakeholders and identify, document, and communicate design-to-manufacturing gaps.
• Collaborate with R&D to implement necessary design adjustments for manufacturability.
• Manage revision control during R&D-to-production transfer using Autodesk Vault, ensuring full traceability.
• Create shop drawings using Autodesk Inventor (3D modeling and 2D manufacturing drawings based on measured parts).
• Prepare assembly drawings for shipping, assembly teams, and field installation.
• Maintain strict control of drawing revisions, distribution, and archiving in Autodesk Vault.
• Ensure all drawings are reviewed and approved prior to release.
• Maintain accurate BOMs in the Syteline ERP system for new releases and engineering changes.
• Program and optimize CNC and automated manufacturing processes, including laser tube cutting (BLM Artube), plasma cutting (Hypertherm ProNest), press brake bending (Step Automation), and Fanuc robotic welding cells.
• Optimize cutting and assembly parameters to improve productivity, quality, and tooling life.
• Design fabrication jigs for manual and robotic welding applications.
• Coordinate fabrication of jigs internally or with external suppliers.
• Validate, adjust, and commission jigs on the production floor.
• Document and manage jigs and tooling in Autodesk Vault.
• Support production teams as a technical resource for drawing interpretation and specifications.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including workstation optimization, layout changes, and process efficiency improvements.
• Support product testing, validation, and engineering development projects.
• Prepare manufacturing cost estimates for projects and existing products.
• Analyze cost impacts of design changes and propose alternative manufacturing solutions.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
• Maintain BOM and revision integrity through all engineering changes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring:

• 25 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Hands-on experience with CAM programming (laser cutting, plasma, CNC bending).
• Practical experience in metal fabrication (welding, cutting, assembly) is highly valued.
• Solid understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems (Autodesk Vault or similar) is an asset.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
• Experience using Autodesk Vault for document control is an asset.
• Familiarity with ERP systems such as Syteline is an asset.
• Exposure to Fanuc robot programming is an asset.
• Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial control systems.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) in a professional setting.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and precision in your work.
• Self-driven, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Strong communicator and team player who collaborates well across departments.
• Able to stay composed and effective under pressure and tight deadlines.
