Position Overview:
The Bus Monitor is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for Child Care & Head Start children and their families. This position involves a split shift (mornings and afternoons) and is located in the Gardner, MA area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
AM Route:
- Help children to buckle into safety restraints
- Be sure children remain seated and always buckled in safety restraints
- Keep an attendance list of which children are on the bus, and check them off as they disembark
- Assist children in crossing the street when needed
- Assist children off the bus at school
- Assist the driver in assuring that all the children have left the bus at the end of the route.
PM Route:
- Assure that all children are on bus, seated and buckled into safety restraints before leaving school
- Assure that children remain seated at all times
- Keep an attendance list ofwhich children are on the bus, and check them off as they disembark
- Assure that children get off at the right bus stop and that they are met by an approved person for release (mother or other designated on blue card)
- Assist children in crossing street where needed
- Assist children off the bus at home
Other duties:
- Take calls from parents on children not attending school in the morning
- Assist in setting up bus list and make changes in address or when new child enters or is leaving the program
- children to learn bus rules to prepare them for kindergarten
- Report problems on bus to supervisor
- Keep the Program cell phone on your person and turned on in case of an emergency during bus routes
- Attend OHS and EEC trainings
- Assist with lunch pick-up and delivery when needed
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass required Background Record Checks
- Ability to relate to children and families
- Must have home telephone and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs

Compensation:
A salary of $21.95 per hour (per union contract) will be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with the MOC compensation philosophy.
