Job Description:
Social Video Editor
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a social video editor to help guide our short-form vertical videos. As part of our social media team, you will edit scripts, give substantive edits to our producers and help manage the workflow of our vertical videos for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and Snapchat. You will work with journalists around the newsroom to guide our social video that showcases the best of WSJ for new and existing audiences.
You will be involved in all steps of production: conceptualization, scripting, shooting, editing and distributing. This team works directly with reporters and editors, as well as our video team to create engaging short, social-first breaking news, features and original videos.
You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of audiences across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent video editing skills are required. You should have experience with video editing software, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe InDesign and/or other relevant tools. Animation skills are a plus. You should also have deep knowledge of video-driven social platforms. The ideal candidate will be comfortable juggling multiple projects at once, and can pivot from an evergreen feature to a quick turn piece within a day.

You Will:
- Work with a team of social editors and producers to create short-form vertical video to reach new and existing audiences
- Pitch stories and concepts, and come up with unique angles
- Optimize titles, thumbnails and captions
- Attend coverage planning meetings and identify stories with new audience development potential
- Work with and train journalists around the newsroom
- Help codify best visual practices on social media, including the creation of unique templates to be used on multiple platforms ; clarify and update the guidelines as necessary
You Have:
- 2 or more years experience working at the intersection of social media and journalism. Experience as a video or multimedia producer preferred.
- Experience working with visual-first social platforms, especially Tiktok, Instagram, Snapchat.
- Experience with aforementioned photo and video editing software. Animation skills a plus.
- Sound editorial judgment and a clear understanding of WSJ's publishing standards.
- Understanding of and familiarity with social-media publishing and analytics tools
- An enthusiasm for Wall Street Journal journalism and a curiosity about current events.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership and collaborative abilities.
