We are looking for a Powder Coater to join our Pilot Stairlift Division. This role will be responsible for safely preparing, sandblasting, coating, and curing metal components to achieve durable and aesthetic finishes that meet company quality standards. This is an on-site position which is primarily based out of our new fabrication facility in Ft. Myers by the airport, and is a full-time, permanent position. Regular working hours are typically 7:30am to 4pm, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Work schedules may sometimes vary depending upon the production schedule. Candidates should offer flexibility for work schedules from 7am through 5pm with the occasional Saturday if needed. Any worked hours exceeding 40 per work week results in standard OT earnings. The pay rate is $19 to $20 per hour, depending on experience.
A high school diploma/GED is required with a minimum of 2 years experience with industrial powder coating / sandblasting and/or industrial painting. A valid US driver's license and reliable transportation is required for occasional local travel to our corporate HQ (for new hire onboarding, training, meetings, luncheons, etc.). Computer proficiency is required in order to navigate the company's ERP system and other applications used.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and clean parts using sandblasting, degreasing, or chemical pretreatment.
- Apply powder coating using electrostatic spray guns per established specifications.
- Complete jobs on time.
- Monitor oven curing process for proper temperature and duration.
- Perform visual and thickness inspections for coating consistency and quality.
- Inspect, maintain, and clean spray booths, guns, and curing ovens to prevent contamination.
- Maintain equipment daily and ensure preventative maintenance is completed to ensure working conditions that do not compromise safety or quality.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report to leadership as needed.
- Mix and match powders for accurate color matching.
- Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Drive and support continuous improvement and a culture of safety and respect.
- Assist in fit and finish operations for stairlifts along with outbound packaging process.
- Practice and follow all company and regulatory policies and procedures for safely handling chemicals and high-temperature equipment.
- Local business travel as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must abide by Company safety policies and participate in Safety Training as required.
- Must have the ability to color match.
- Must understand sandblasting operations and prep work for powder coating.
- Must have knowledge of surface preparations and coating applications techniques and must be able to apply texture techniques.
- Must have basic math and measurement (i.e., quart, gallon, etc.) skills.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Must have knowledge of relative safety standards and use protective PPE as required.
- Must have experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
- Must have a willingness to learn advanced techniques.
- Must have strong work ethic and hold an excellent attendance record.
- Must have very good manual dexterity and balance with consistent strength; must be in good physical condition and can endure standing for extended hours in a warm to hot environment while wearing protective clothing (such as coverall suits, gloves, respirators, etc.).
- Must have proficient computer skills and experience for communications such as email, data entry/documentation, etc., specifically with MS Office applications.
- Must have familiarity with ERP systems, or be ready, willing, and able to learn company ERP system within a reasonable timeframe.
- Must have overall technical abilities and savviness to quickly learn and efficiently work safely with Merits products.
- Must be able to work independently and within a team environment.
- Must have valid driver’s license and must maintain throughout employment with company.
- Must speak, read, and write fluent English and have excellent communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time, and breaks are limited to scheduled meals and rest periods. The employee will also be required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders and balance; use of hands to handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; frequently required to talk and hear; active use of computer/electronic devices. The employee is required to safely lift or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment for this role is in a manufacturing / production operations, and/or a warehousing atmosphere. The employee may need to work near moving mechanical parts. In these environments, the noise levels may often be moderate to loud; ambient climate temperatures that are often humid and hot (depending on season), dry, dusty to moderately clean. Employees will be required to use and/or wear safety equipment / PPE, which will be provided to the employee by the company. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods of time due in a warm to hot environment while wearing PPE due to the nature of this role.
