The University and Employment Preparation Department at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional faculty member to teach NAST 0600 (First Peoples Studies) in Yunesit’in.
NAST 0600 is a provincial level adult basic education course equivalent to a Grade 12 elective. In this course, students explore issues related to the role of elders, women, and leaders in matters pertaining to health, education, justice, and economical development in Indigenous peoples communities and off-reserve communities. Using the articles found in the textbook as a guide, the instructor will draw upon community resources to supplement the course content.
• Master's degree in a relevant field (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (required)
• Teaching Certificate, or Instructor's Diploma, or 5 years teaching experience (required)
• Experience teaching students whose educational, social, and economic backgrounds are diverse, and for whom previous school experience may have been challenging (required)
• Demonstrated evidence of scholarly teaching (required)
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in ABE courses (preferred)
• Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) (preferred)
• Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) (preferred)
• Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) (preferred)
