About This Position
Job Summary
The Associate Director of Sales supports the development and execution of total hotel revenue strategies across group and transient segments, group F&B, meeting and event spaces, local catering, and ancillary revenue streams. This role partners closely with the Director of Sales & Marketing to drive optimal market mix, pricing, sales deployment, and brand-aligned marketing initiatives.
The ideal candidate excels in strategic thinking, proactive leadership, and relationship building, with a focus on maximizing profitability, elevating guest satisfaction, and strengthening The Westin Michigan Avenue’s market presence. This role is accountable for achieving budgeted goals, forecasting accuracy, and continually identifying growth opportunities.
Essential FunctionsRevenue Leadership & Strategy- Lead the revenue management process alongside the DOS to ensure the hotel secures the optimal business mix—maximizing high-demand periods and building an effective base in softer periods.
- Monitor revenue pace and guide the team to consistently achieve and surpass budgeted sales and revenue goals.
- Partner with Marketing and PR to set and execute strategic initiatives that support revenue targets and brand positioning.
- Analyze market trends, competitor intelligence, and customer needs to inform strategies and adjust action plans as needed.
- Oversee all sales activities including prospecting, qualifying leads, conducting site visits, and preparing compelling proposals and presentations.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and close group and catering business within established guidelines to maximize yield and profitability.
- Develop target account lists, strategic action plans, and lead distribution processes that drive productivity across the sales team.
- Maintain strong relationships with meeting planners, key accounts, and brand partners to drive sustained market share growth.
- Represent the hotel at industry events, community functions, and professional organizations to enhance visibility.
- Provide strong, people-first leadership that supports the growth, engagement, and performance of the sales team.
- Lead staff through coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, and skill development to achieve departmental and individual goals.
- Facilitate weekly sales meetings, daily business reviews, and ongoing communication to ensure alignment and operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate and organized sales files, contracts, reports, and CRM documentation.
- Oversee the business evaluation process with the Revenue Manager to ensure all group bookings meet profitability thresholds.
- Participate in monthly revenue strategy meetings and collaborate cross-functionally with operations, events, and front-of-house teams.
- Support the development of annual budgets and monthly/quarterly forecasts, ensuring thoughtful analysis and timely reporting.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to present confidently to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with proven expertise in revenue strategy, data interpretation, and business planning.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and hotel sales platforms; experience with CRM and property management systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, motivate, and lead high-performing teams.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of hotel sales techniques, market dynamics, and competitive analysis.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong understanding of Chicago’s tourism, business ecosystem, local attractions, and event landscape is a plus.
Availability
The hotel operates 24/7, and business needs may require flexibility. While this role primarily follows a Monday–Friday schedule, occasional evenings, weekends, or shifts outside standard hours may be required based on business demand or client activity.
