The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Manager I. This position has been established with the primary responsibility of managing the mouse colony for a transplant immunology laboratory. The incumbent will breed, monitor, maintain and manage mouse colonies, which will include PCR-based genotyping, keeping accurate census, communication with technicians/veterinarian/post-docs and perform procedures such as injections and blood draws. The incumbent will also learn to perform surgical procedures such as islet transplantation. A second responsibility will be to manage the overall lab including ordering of supplies, monitoring equipment, writing of protocols and helping analyze research data and monitor animal budgets.
Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
